UPDATE as of 4/25/2026 : A friend and I were in the area and decided to stop at the Hewing for a cocktail and I wanted to give this place another chance. We were not greeted by anyone when we walked in and chose to sit in the lounge space DIRECTLY in front of the bar. The bar area had less than 5 people in it at this time and there were at least 9 staff members just standing around talking to each other. As we sat there waiting, all staff members made eye contact with us and made ZERO effort to come greet us. After about 5minutes, we got up and went to the bar where we were not greeted, but tossed coasters and asked ‘what can I get you?’ As we sat at the bar, I noticed other patrons coming in, sitting in the lounge space, being greeted AND waited on shortly after my friend and I were ignored and forced to go to the bar to get service. I went against my better judgement and left a tip even though one was not deserved. Glad to see that a whole year has gone by and NOTHING has changed and once again, I DO NOT recommend this establishment to anyone! Previous review : Visiting this gorgeous establishment for just an adult beverage left an extremely bad taste in my mouth. A friend and I sat down at the bar and the first bartender greeted us with a very unfriendly greeting and our first round of beverages were served in a timely manner. However, 2 sets of people to the left and right of us were met with friendly greetings, given water and menus that they were able to hold onto (our menus were quickly taken from us after ordering). We enjoyed our beverages, but not once did a bartender stop to ask if we wanted another … even after our beverages were gone and multiple attempts by us to order another were ignored. Mind you, the guests around us were being served in a timely fashion with politeness. After our second round and again, multiple attempts at trying to grab the bartenders attention (ignored) … we gave up and decided to close our tabs. Once the credit card was down on the bar, that is when we had the bartenders attention, he asked us, ‘what did you guys have?’ … we could’ve lied and said the bare minimum, but as good patrons, we told him our order … this is the second bartender who absolutely ignored us the whole time, serving both couples on either side of us with great customer service. He tried to save himself by saying ‘I greatly appreciate you guys’ as I signed my receipt with a ZERO tip on it and I’m not even sorry about that. The service at this bar was crap and based on the amount of bartenders they had to patrons … ABSOLUTELY ZERO excuse for how my friend and I were treated while everyone else around was given 5-star treatment. DO NOT RECOMMEND.

I selected the rooftop at Hewing Hotel for my proposal to my now-fiancé back in December, expecting it to be the perfect setting for such a special moment. To ensure everything went smoothly, I called the hotel several times in advance to confirm the space was available: once a month out, then two weeks out, one week out, and again just two days before. Each time, staff assured me the rooftop was open and available. On the day itself, only two hours before the planned proposal, one of the friends who was distracting my fiancé stopped at the front desk for water and checked one last time. That’s when they informed her that the rooftop had been reserved for a private event and no one would be allowed access. I immediately called the hotel, explained the full situation, and reminded them of all my previous confirmations. Their response was simply, “We’re so sorry, this rarely happens.” Even though I had been assured as recently as two days earlier that the space was free, they now said the entire area was reserved and I could not go up. I was left scrambling in a panic to come up with an alternative plan while coordinating with my photographer and the two friends. During that stressful time, the front desk called me back at least four times, apologizing each time but maintaining that letting me up was not an option. They offered a bottle of champagne, even though I had mentioned we don’t drink. When I asked if I could speak with the group that had reserved the space to see if they would mind me proposing quietly off to the side, I was told that wasn’t possible. In the end, I decided not to accept their decision and headed up early anyway. When the group arrived, I explained my situation. They were incredibly kind and welcoming, happily allowing me to propose during their gathering. As I spoke with their host, other hotel staff from the bar area overheard and noted that it wasn’t actually a fully private event and that guests were generally allowed on the rooftop. Thankfully, the proposal became the best night of my life — but only because I chose to push forward despite the hotel’s miscommunication, and because the group turned out to be so accommodating. The rooftop itself offers beautiful views and has great potential, but the significant communication breakdown created unnecessary stress and nearly ruined a milestone moment. A couple of months later, we contacted customer service seeking a reasonable gesture to make up for the issue. Their final offer was 10% off a future room, which felt inadequate given the circumstances. As a result, we will not be returning to stay at Hewing Hotel. If you’re considering the Hewing Hotel for a special event or proposal, I strongly recommend getting all confirmations in writing and being prepared to follow up multiple times. The location is appealing, but the service fell short when it mattered most.

This was a very nice hotel. The room was very comfortable and clean. All the staff were fantastic throughout the stay. Rooftop bar area is small and crowded, the downstairs bar got packed Saturday night. The food was good, but the menu is a bit too eclectic and overpriced. I was a bit leery upon arrival because of the ladies club across the street; however, the neighborhood turned out to be safe for walking with tons of options close by.

The bartender was nice. Great location

The staff were very friendly, and the hotel is just a 10-minute walk from the arena. The room was nice, and the rooftop sauna and pool were a great bonus. However, my room (314) had a constant earthquake-like vibration, which I think came from a nearby washing machine. It wasn’t noisy, but I would avoid this room if you’re looking for a peaceful stay. The cleaners were lovely and very attentive. During weekend brunch, the breakfast menu has to be enjoyed in the lobby or in your room. Overall, a very nice hotel.

We’ve stayed at the Hewing several times - it’s one of our favorite spots for a staycation because we love the rooftop hot tub and the accessibility to awesome North Loop restaurants. We have had so many lovely experiences, but this past weekend was disappointing. They put us on the 5th floor (right under the rooftop bar) and you could hear the music thudding in our room until midnight. We headed up to the hot tub around 10pm, and there were no towels, no drink service (there’s typically a server for hotel guests), and the hot tub was freezing cold. We ended up going back to our room and called the front desk hoping they could help the other hotel guests who were freezing and needed towels. We were told maintenance was offsite so the temperature couldn’t be adjusted, and she didn’t seem to care about the towels. They offered us free breakfast, but we declined since we had existing plans, and she said she would talk with her manager to get us taken care of. Upon checking out, we shared our concerns and the young man said, “I’m sorry, I will email your receipt to you.” No resolution, no customer service. We’re pretty disappointed, and we’ll look for different hotels for future staycations. Sadly, Hewing is just not the experience and quality it used to be.

I recently enjoyed a glass of wine on the Hewing rooftop and loved my experience. The music was a nice vibe, for Friday early evening, too! Trey, who works in guest services at the Hewing, hosted us. It was the warmest welcome I’ve had at the Hewing and I will definitely be returning soon for more good vibes and delicious wine. Whoever served me at the bar was also super inviting, as well.

This is my second time staying at this hotel, and once again, the entire experience was absolutely amazing. The staff were very professional, attentive, and welcoming throughout my stay. The food was excellent, and the room was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. I have traveled to many places across different states, but this hotel truly stands out as one of my favorites. It is definitely one of the biggest reasons I look forward to coming back to Minneapolis. I am already looking forward to my third visit soon!

We booked a night here to celebrate Valentines Day. The overall aesthetic of the hotel is very nice with an up north kind of vibe. The staff were friendly and helpful. We knew ahead of time that the restaurant would be closed for remodeling which was fine but unfortunate for a holiday like Valentine’s Day. I was a bit taken aback at the lack of overall cleanliness of the common spaces. There was a toilet brush just sitting in the hallway our entire stay. There were garbage cans piled up in other places along the hallway. The floor in the entry out to the pool was visibly dirty and it had just opened for the day at 7am so I assume it hadn’t been cleaned from the night before. The pool was filthy, I could see visible hair and debris floating in the pool. It was as if the filter wasn’t working at all. There were towels and other garbage laying all over from the night before. I was confused as to why the hotel wouldn’t clean up before the pool opened at 7am. Overall our stay was fine but for what we paid I had higher expectations.

I get it the hotel is in downtown Minneapolis where there is a lot of restaurants and things to do, yes i agree they have a rooftop pool which I would say is the only big thing they actually have. I’m gonna start by saying if you have this type of money to spend and can actually afford this place I encourage you to go to Drury Plaza which is also downtown Saint Paul roughly 20 minutes drive from this place. Drury Plaza is cheaper than this place but they have free parking, breakfast and lunch included in your stay buffet style, if you didn’t pick up what I am saying is that this place don’t have no free parking, no breakfast or lunch included in your stay you have to pay for that separate from the $700+ dollars you already paid to spend 3 nights here. The room has a small fridge that won’t even get your drinks cold, the drinks they have in the fridge in the room for sale is barely even cold after my second night here. That rooftop hot tub be lucky if you actually get to go in it and enjoy it even though it is from morning to 12 midnight it is always crowded and full. Vallet parking for weekends overnight is 55 dollars, they have a parking lot next to it that charge $10 for overnight parking on the weekends. I set my room temperature on 75 degrees the room didn’t still get hot, I had to get one of their employees to come check it who end up putting a space heater in my room. They didn’t put any toothpaste in the room I had to go downstairs and ask for it. What I learned from this is that sometimes don’t let the comments trick you it is not always what it seems. I also feel like it is a hotel for adults only since I been here I haven’t seen any kids the rooftop hot-tub is definitely adults only though. Once again go to Drury Plaza you would thank me later, your wife, husband, kids, family members will definitely be happy with you.
