Lions and Lanterns

We stayed at the Castillo room. It was absolutely spotless, kitted out with lots of comfort items like a dehumidifier, fans, and aircon for the room, and the lighting was very adjustable so you can have it as dim as you want. The little coffee area was a welcome touch. Check-In is as simple as being given a code and entering your room. Staff was very quick to respond when I had a door entry issue. Location is amazing, only a short walk away from the main action of St. Augustine. I'd definitely stay here again. I really can't fault it on anything, all our needs were met and the staff is very friendly.

I booked this trip as a last minute getaway, and was absolutely blown away. The atmosphere, the decor, the space… All of it was perfect. Hosts were communicative and responsive, and I absolutely wouldn’t hesitate to stay here on my next visit to St. Augustine. I will be recommending to friends & family that go on future trips to the area!

My husband and I spent a weekend in St. Augustine June 5th -June 6th, which was our first visit to St. Augustine. Our stay at Lions and Lanterns was comfortable, homey, and relaxing. We stayed in Fiel, an upstairs room; the AC worked great, the room was very clean and spacious. It was a wonderful place to relax after walking around in the city. The house is in a residential neighborhood; a very easy walk to the sights yet quiet and peaceful. The parking is very convenient. The owner was attentive; checking in with us periodicially and very hospitable! We highly recommend Lions and Lanterns for a romantic get-a-away!

My husband and I recently celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary at The Isabel, and it was absolutely incredible! The location at Lions & Lanterns is perfect. Within walking distance of just about everything, which made exploring so easy and enjoyable. One of my favorite parts of the stay was soaking in the deepest bathtub I've ever seen! I also loved sipping coffee on the adorable porch just off our room each morning. The coffee station was exactly what I needed, and the bed was so cozy and comfortable, perfect for relaxing and watching movies on a couple of rainy afternoons.Our host, Josie, was wonderful. She was attentive, helpful, and truly went above and beyond to make sure our stay was perfect from start to finish. She also shared some fantastic local recommendations that ended up being some of our favorite spots during the trip. A few highlights were Forgotten Tonic for drinks and appetizers, Red Pineapple for shopping, Schmagel's bagels for breakfast and Pizza Alley for pasta and cannolis. We had such a memorable anniversary getaway and can't wait to return! <3

We have never stayed at an Inn style house before, and glad we did. This gem was perfect for our trip to St. Augustine. The rooms are decorated with comfortable vibes with character and very clean. You can tell there is heart in this place. There are several outdoor places to sit with plants and foliage everywhere, so it was very relaxing. After reading the bio history and seeing the pics, I was sold. It's about two blocks to St George Street and from how quiet the neighborhood was, you would never know it was that close. We stayed in the Pax room, which had the paint by numbers of the Lion that the locals painted. The double shower was amazing! The bed was comfortable and everything was very clean. Thank you Josie for all you put into this, and so others can experience the heart of St Augustine, which you are a part of. We will definitely be back!

My husband and I booked one night here to celebrate our 10-year wedding anniversary. We rarely get time away by ourselves since we have two kids, so this stay was something we were really looking forward to. After looking through the room options, we chose the Fort Mose room. First, the positives: • Check-in was smooth and clearly communicated ahead of time via text from the owner. It’s more of an Airbnb-style setup where you go directly to your room and enter with a code, which was convenient. • The room itself was lovely, clean, and thoughtfully decorated. It had high ceilings, a peaceful atmosphere, and useful amenities like a coffee maker, mini fridge, microwave, and sink area. • We appreciated that every window and the door had blinds for privacy, especially since the neighboring homes are very close by in the historic district. • There were some genuinely thoughtful touches in the room, like the option to write a letter to your significant other that the owner would mail a year later. • The location was also excellent. It was on a quiet street but still within easy walking distance of historic downtown, restaurants, activities, and brunch spots. Unfortunately, there were several issues that made the experience less relaxing than we had hoped: • I had mentioned ahead of time that we were celebrating our 10-year anniversary, partly because I had read reviews from other guests who mentioned small celebratory touches during milestone stays. I wasn’t expecting anything extravagant, but I did hope for at least a small acknowledgment given the occasion. • The room next to ours appeared to have a dog staying in it. When we returned from dinner, the dog was alone in the room with the blinds open and barked continuously for quite a while after we arrived. It unfortunately disrupted the quiet atmosphere we were hoping for. • There is also a room directly above the Fort Mose room, and noise from upstairs traveled very easily. The guests above us were awake and moving around well into the early morning hours, and the sound carried enough that it made it difficult to sleep. • One smaller note: the bathroom was compact but cleverly designed. The only challenge was the rain shower placement. Because the shower space itself is quite small and the shower head is mounted directly overhead, it was a little difficult to move around without constantly being under the water. Not a major issue for a one-night stay, but worth mentioning. Overall, we really wanted to love this place because there truly are many charming aspects to the property, and it’s clear a lot of care has gone into the rooms and guest experience. Unfortunately, between the noise from neighboring guests, the barking dog, and the lack of sleep, it ended up being hard for us to fully relax and enjoy our anniversary getaway. Some of these issues may have simply been unlucky circumstances, but together they had an impact on our stay. We did address these with the owner after our stay and she was apologetic about the dog and guest noise, with steps being taken to avoid issues such as this in the future.

Can't say enough good things about our stay here! Starting with arrival, having a place to safely park our car during our stay was a huge relief. As soon as we walked into our room (Castillo) we knew we might the right choice. The interior design is beautiful, thoughtful and most importantly very functional. Comfortable bed, awesome bathroom and the large fridge was a huge plus. We will definitely book this room again next time we are in town. 10/10 experience!

I booked a room in March for two nights, and on the same day that we arrived we had an emergency with our pet and had to leave, we had no other choice. I let the management know and requested some type of credit, because we didn't use the room at all, but I was denied. I thought that they might make an exception, since we have stayed there multiple times and have recommended Lions and Lanterns to four other groups that stayed there also. I will not be returning to Lions and Lanterns, and will not recommend it in the future.

That was our anniversary getaway. Everything was an unforgettable experience. The room was beautifully designed and had every single thing you need. The hosts welcomed us with champagne and rose petals. The location was walkable to all the places you would want to be - restaurants, college, stores, square. We would definitely be back. I would recommend to anyone who has a special occasion or not.

Absolutely one of the best AIRBNBS I’ve stayed in ever! To start the room was Gorgeous and everything was thought of! The host is the nicest person ever and to top it all off they allowed our sweet Gus dog to join us! We will 100% be back! They host could answer any questions about the area, they had a bonfire at night which was lovely to chat to others and it was just such a lovely stay! Thank you!!
