Hotel Cecil

Booked a 2-night, 3-day stay (room only) from May 3rd to 5th, 2026, via Agoda. The price was just under 8,000 yen. * The door was closed from night until early morning, making it very difficult to find the entrance on a first visit. * Arrived near midnight, but the door was closed. I rang the bell above the door and was allowed in. I was grateful they allowed me to check in even in the middle of the night. * The door remained closed until around 8 AM. To go out, you need to wake up the employee (who sleeps at the front desk!) to unlock the door. It felt a little awkward. * The room quality is about average for India. As others have mentioned, there's a faint sewage smell throughout the building, which is a bit unpleasant. There's no elevator. * Located on College Street, the soundproofing is poor, and you'll be woken up by the noise from outside early in the morning. * There are sometimes stray dogs near the entrance and inside the building. When I woke up this morning, there was poop in front of my room. * The room had air conditioning, and it worked on the first night, but for some reason it stopped working from the second night onwards. When I asked the innkeeper (probably the owner), he replied rather sternly, "No AC Plan! Check your reservation!!" Indeed, the booking details didn't mention air conditioning... Luckily it wasn't the middle of summer. * The toilet and shower were in the same room. The shower had a water heater, and although the water pressure was weak, hot water did come out. * Wi-Fi was also usable, albeit weakly. * The chai from the chai shop in front of the inn was delicious. Also, the man at the pharmacy asked me, "Any problem?" * They held my luggage even after check-out. * The customer service from the man who seemed to be the owner was poor, leaving a bad impression. The location is decent. The cost-performance ratio isn't that great, so I probably won't stay again.

The hotel canceled our booking because we missed their call while we were traveling. The reservation was done and confirmed on Booking.com with credit card details attached. However when we reached Kolkata with our elderly parents we were told rooms have been sold to other guests and online bookings are confirmed only if manually followed up!! This was the first time we heard of this after having done over 75 international & domestic hotel bookings on the same portal. The staff and hotel owners apathy made the experience even worse.

The location is easily reachable from Railway station, though it's in a lane just besides Food Court opposite Gate 1 of Medical College, still you can find it. Rooms are spacious enough for two people and neat and clean, well maintained. They don't have inhouse restaurant or kitchen though breakfast is complimentary. Rest staffs were cordially and welcoming. Rooms has necessary amenities overall stay was satisfactory and recommended for future stay.

AMAZING AMAZING. TAKE A CAB TO medical college kolkata gate no. 1 it's opposite to that. the rooms ARE FREAKING SQEAKY CLEAN. Take AC rooms. it really gives a special treatment feeling. service is good too
