Rooms are severely overpriced, have a stale smell, no TV and bathrooms haven’t been renovated since the 80’s
Review for the restaurant :) we’ve been about 3 times now, amazing service and food is delicious! Really unique flavours and locally grown produce. Standouts were the warehou flat bread (essentially wood fired pizzas) and the Paua pasta 👌 great cocktails too. The new banquet seating is much nicer than the previous high tables and stools, more comfortable so good job on the team for putting that in :)
Located 4km from the town centre its an walk to and from the town to save paying for parking!
Visited for solo dinner (as a non accommodation guest)— food was decent, but the experience unravelled from there. Food-wise, the presentation across all three dishes was genuinely lovely — clearly a kitchen that takes pride in its plating. The Brussels sprouts were the standout, and the octopus fennel escabeche was enjoyable, though the octopus leaned a touch too soft in texture for my preference. The garlic confit flatbread rounded it out nicely. One small practical note — each dish arrived on individual small plates, which made eating a little awkward. Worth asking for a larger sharing plate if you're dining solo. Food earns a solid 3.5/5 — the kitchen clearly has talent. But coffee (1.0/5) and service (1.5/5) tell a different story. Ordered a decaf long black with cream on the side. Received what appeared to be a regular long black with cold milk. I'd double-confirmed the cream with my waitress when ordering, so I assumed the milk was some kind of UHT cream and drank it. Only realised it was milk when I tasted it separately near the end. At some point while I was away from the table, a staff member had delivered the coffee unattended — so by the time I returned, I had no way of knowing who had handled it or what was served. When I flagged the milk issue to my waitress, rather than apologising she deflected — mentioning a colleague had delivered it. I asked her to confirm with the barista; she returned with a jug of cream instead, and confirmed it had been milk all along — by which point my coffee was nearly finished. More concerning was whether it was actually decaf — I left shaky and cold, which is how I respond to caffeine. This has happened to me at this venue before. The duty manager was attentive and apologetic, and offered a complimentary coffee the next day — which I appreciated. However when I returned, the replacement came in a chipped cup, tasted stale, for a complimentary coffee meant to repair the experience, it fell short. And the staff who'd served me the night before observed me from a distance without a word. The apology from duty manager felt sincere in the moment but the follow-through told a different story. If you have dietary or caffeine restrictions, I'd order carefully here. I used to visit regularly and always enjoyed it, but over the past year the experience has felt different. This visit confirmed that feeling unfortunately.
We had our wedding reception at Sherwood Queenstown and had the most incredible experience. We honestly can’t recommend them enough for your next event, stay, or even just dining at the restaurant. From start to finish, everything was seamless. A huge thank you to Leah and the team for making the entire planning process so easy and completely stress-free. On the day, we felt so looked after- nothing was ever too much trouble, whether it was a drink, a check-in, or making sure everything ran perfectly behind the scenes. The wedding reception itself was absolutely beautiful. The venue looked stunning, the atmosphere was perfect, and the food was genuinely to die for - so many of our guests are still talking about it. We also stayed overnight and the hotel experience was just as amazing. The room was spotless and comfortable, with thoughtful touches like a bottle of wine and a lovely note waiting for us. We had the best stay and the comfiest sleep. Every part of the experience exceeded expectations. We couldn’t recommend Sherwood enough – for weddings, events, dining, or a stay. Everything was amazing from beginning to end.
Sadly the kitchenette had no microwave. And found the Restaurant very expensive. But it is Queenstown so thats a given. But lovely staff and it was nice and warm. Would stay again.
