Kuirau Park is a free public park in central Rotorua with steaming geothermal pools, used by families and tourists. It's listed here because gay sources name it: GayNZ called it a long-standing cruising area in 2013, and GayTravelr still does. We couldn't confirm how active it is today, and we don't give directions. The risks are real. An indecent act in a public place is an offence in New Zealand. In 2011 Rotorua police told the Daily Post that they and council staff regularly patrol the park, and GayNZ reported a sexual assault there in 2013, along with earlier violence. Most men here meet through the apps, and the nearest gay saunas are in Auckland.
