The event creates a structured but relaxed way to meet people face-to-face. Most importantly, there is no expectation that every conversation needs to lead somewhere romantic.

Queer Speed Dating – Without the Pressure

Traditional speed dating often assumes everyone is looking for exactly the same thing. However, queer relationships and connections rarely fit neatly into one box.

Therefore, Queer Speed Dating & Friending makes space for different kinds of connection.

Maybe you are looking for a date. Perhaps you want to flirt. On the other hand, you might simply want to expand your queer social circle and meet new friends.

All of those reasons are welcome.

The goal is not to force chemistry. Instead, the evening gives you a chance to meet several people in a friendly, structured setting and discover who you naturally click with.

How Queer Speed Dating & Friending Works

The evening follows a structured speed dating format, so you will have the chance to meet and talk with multiple people without having to navigate a crowded room on your own.

At the beginning of the evening, your host, Eric BigClit, will welcome everyone and explain how the process works.

You will then take part in a series of short mini-dates. Each conversation gives you a few minutes to get to know the person opposite you before it is time to move on and meet someone new.

During the evening, you can privately keep track of the people you would like to connect with again. This can be for dating, friendship or another kind of connection.

After the speed dating rounds, you submit your choices. If you and another participant have both indicated that you would like to connect, it is a match. Contact details are only shared in the case of a mutual match. Please only share the info you feel comfortable sharing with your matches in the registration form.

The structured part of the evening runs from 19:00 to 21:00. Afterwards, you are welcome to stay at Villa Vida, have a drink and continue conversations in a more relaxed setting.

Consent, boundaries and mutual respect are essential throughout the evening.

A friendly conversation does not automatically mean romantic interest. Likewise, flirting does not create an obligation to share personal information, exchange contact details or meet again.

Racism, transphobia, homophobia, biphobia, ableism, sexism, body shaming, harassment and other discriminatory behaviour are not welcome.

Please respect other people’s names, pronouns, identities and boundaries.

Coming Alone? Absolutely.

You do not need to bring a friend or already know people at Villa Vida.

In fact, Queer Speed Dating & Friending is specifically designed to make meeting new people easier.

The host will guide the format, while the timed conversations give everyone a clear reason to introduce themselves. Therefore, you do not need to figure out how to approach strangers across a crowded bar.

Just show up as yourself.

Tickets and Soli Tickets

Participation costs €20 per person.

However, we do not want the ticket price to prevent someone from participating. Therefore, Soli tickets are available for anyone who cannot comfortably afford the standard €20 price.

If you need a Soli ticket, simply write this in the comments section of the registration form when you sign up. There is no need to explain or justify why you need one.

Who Can Join?

Queer Speed Dating & Friending is for queer people who want to meet other queer people.

People across the LGBTQIA+ community are welcome, including people of different genders, sexualities and relationship orientations.

Trans, non-binary, gender-diverse, lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, asexual, aromantic and otherwise queer participants are welcome.

There is no single way to look, date, flirt, socialise or be queer.

Likewise, you do not need to be highly outgoing to participate. Speed dating can feel intimidating, especially if you are shy or coming alone. However, the structured format means everyone is there for the same basic reason: to meet someone new.

Accessibility at Villa Vida Café

Villa Vida Café is located at Linke Wienzeile 102, 1060 Vienna.

The café has step-free access, accessible indoor seating and an accessible toilet. Service animals are welcome.

Because speed dating involves multiple conversations taking place at the same time, the room may become lively and there may be significant background noise.
