È stato nominato LGBTQI Venue of the Year ai Proud Scotland Awards 2024.

Came here with a few friends of mine as we were meaning to check it out for awhile. Was definitely not let down as the music, atmosphere and vibe. All of which were better than most clubs in dundee atm. Drinks were reasonably priced and the workers were polite and friendly. 100% going to be going again when I can! (Also the performer Tish Ewe was a great laugh!)

Kandy Bar is a good fun and friendly bar with good banter. Like CHEERS, where everybody knows your name kinda place. Bingo is fun too and can be quite entertaining.

I am raising serious concerns about my experience at Kandy, which demonstrates a clear misunderstanding of disability rights and legal obligations. On attending your venue, I was refused entry after 9 PM because I was accompanied by my medical alert assistance dog. Staff stated this was due to a “no pets” policy and/or a time-based restriction on dogs. This reasoning is incorrect and not supported by UK law. Under the Equality Act 2010, assistance dogs are not considered pets. They are recognised as auxiliary aids used by disabled individuals to access services on an equal basis. Refusing entry on this basis may constitute unlawful disability discrimination. To be clear, Section 29 of the Equality Act 2010 requires service providers, including bars and licensed venues, to ensure they do not discriminate against disabled people. Section 20 introduces the duty to make reasonable adjustments, and Section 21 confirms that failing to meet this duty is itself discrimination. Allowing access to an assistance dog is widely recognised as a basic and expected reasonable adjustment. Policies such as “no pets” or restrictions based on time do not override these legal obligations. A venue cannot apply a blanket rule that excludes assistance dogs, whether before or after a certain hour. The only circumstances where refusal might be justified would be if the dog were out of control, aggressive, or posed a genuine health and safety risk. None of these conditions applied. My dog was calm, well-behaved, and under full control at all times. In addition to the refusal, I overheard staff making dismissive and inappropriate comments about my medical alert dog. This behaviour was unprofessional and added unnecessary embarrassment to the situation. It is also important to address common misconceptions that appear to have influenced this decision. There is no legal requirement for an assistance dog to be trained by a specific organisation in order to be protected under the law. There is also no requirement for handlers to carry or present identification, certification, or documentation. Staff should not challenge or attempt to validate a person’s disability as a condition of entry. Assistance dogs are permitted in food-serving environments, bars, and pubs, and are not treated as a hygiene risk in the same way as pets. This is well-established guidance. This situation was entirely avoidable and reflects a lack of staff training and awareness. Disabled individuals should not have to justify their rights or face barriers when accessing public venues. I strongly encourage management to take this seriously by reviewing policies and ensuring all staff are properly trained on the Equality Act 2010 and the rights of assistance dog users. I hope this is addressed promptly. If not, I will consider escalating the matter to the Equality Advisory Support Service and other appropriate channels.

unfortunate experience. Been coming here for a few years now and I’ve never really had a bad experience until now. My bag and purse were stolen when we had come for a couple of drinks on Valentine’s Day. I had asked for them to check the cameras as I didn’t move from my seat once or take my bag anywhere. A staff member told me unfortunately the cameras were not working I asked why then they said they hadn’t been on. I spoke to someone else who before saying anything pointed at the camera on the ceiling and said it was definitely on and would’ve showed our seats. I was reminded of signs on the wall that say not to leave your belongings but I kept explaining I hadn’t left my seat once. I didn’t go to the bathroom. I didn’t go to the bar and order a drink. I never stood up or moved. The security guy came and confirmed I had never moved. my bag was by my side the whole time. I then got told that not a single thing has ever been stolen in this bar for well over 10 years which is irrelevant to me when my bag was just stolen…Staff tried to joke and I understand they were maybe trying to lighten the situation but its just not funny. I’m just disappointed with the cameras not being turned on in the first place it doesn’t seem safe in a busy bar and the way every staff member I spoke to about it either tried to joke or put the blame on me just wasn’t what I expected. I understood not much could be done about my belongings by that point but I did expect to at least be taken seriously. it’s just so annoying cause I actually do really like it in here and I understand it’s not Kandys fault things were stolen but I feel the cameras should’ve at least been on in such a busy place
