Maggie Mae's Brighton

The toilets were downstairs, which was a bit inconvenient as it involved a long walk down and quite a few stairs. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. I was disappointed that the air conditioning wasn't working was to hot and had to ask twice before it was eventually turned on. The drinks were very nice and reasonably priced at 2 for £16. The venue hosted an 80s party, but unfortunately there weren't many people there. The music selection was also a little disappointing for an 80s night. A wider variety of 80s hits songs would have made the atmosphere much better. Overall, the staff and drinks were great, but there are a few areas that could be improved. Turn air con on....

Everyone dancing and having a good time when management decide to close, doormen literally herded everyone out of the door in 2 minutes! It was 12.20, closing time 1am. When I questioned a doorman he said don't the staff deserve to go home early? NO!

This bar was great, music atmosphere and service. the only thing is they need to invest in some air-conditioning the place was way too hot, id hate to think what its like in the height of summer, not only for the customers but for the staff too. Other than that 10/10

Great music and a great atmosphere

I attended a 1D night which you had to purchase tickets in advance and was sold out months prior. At the beginning atmosphere was great, the door staff and the bar staff were friendly and saw them even singing along to some 1D songs, the dj was great and made us dance and scream at the top of our lungs for hours. The problem, which was a HUGE one seeing that the party was “ticket only” happened in the middle of the night when the owner and manager allowed some of their friends, who clearly had no ticket or interest in 1D to come in. These men were drunk and started harassing someone guests by the bar. It was clear that everyone was uncomfortable with their presence as the bar area cleared up and most people moved away from them. They started getting aggressive when they saw that they weren’t getting the attention they wanted, making some paying guests feel so uncomfortable that they decided to leave the private party. One woman went to talk to the owner, who told her they were guests, she reminded him it was a private ticketed event and he said they were allowed to be there. She made it clear that they were bothering our guests and he stood there watching them but didn’t intervene. It wasn’t until the same woman who talked with the owner took things into her own hands and stepped between the men and the guests they were harassing and basically told them to leave. Other guests joined in telling them to leave. At some point they must have realized that they weren’t going to pull that night in a room full of gay women. All this while the owner stood and watched one of the men shout at the woman that stood up to them. Not doing anything. The host woman poured him a pint and hugged him, making it clear to everyone that they were most probably friends of theirs. The owner and the host woman clearly ignored the fact that the people that had the right to be at the private party were feeling uncomfortable with the presence of these men, showing negligence and disrespect towards the guests. The man with the beer decided to step out and thankfully one of the door staff took his beer away and didn’t allow him back in. As much as I enjoyed myself, danced and sang all night, surrounded by my friends this experience left a bad taste in my mouth. The fact that the owner, knowing full well that the guests of the party were not feeling safe with the presence of these aggressive, drunk blokes decided to ignore them, allowed them to harass and shout at some of the women there was definitely a bad sign. So as much as I enjoyed myself singing to 1D songs this experience has made me question if I would ever go back knowing that if drunk friends of the owner, harass me I will probably have to fend for myself while they stand back and just watch, not protecting their guests and letting their friends do as they want, regardless of how nasty and disrespectful they get.

Says on maps it's open until 1am but it was closed before 11!

Great bar, well worth a visit, especially for the music. We went on an 80s night, fantastic tunes all night long. We'll definitely go again the next time we're in Brighton. Highly recommend.

First time here. Two of our friends were celebrating there birthday. We came as a group of six from Littlehampton. We had the best time and we are definitely coming back. Thankyou to all of the team for making us fill so welcome xxxx
