Steamworks Sauna Edinburgh

Horrible cold place always empty , showers are shit , while place needs a deep clean , best going to Glasgow pipeworks far far superior

Would avoid. Not worth it. Went on Sunday which is supposed to be the popular day. They have some really weird additional charges that just sour the experience - they should re think these. £20 gets you a locker but no access to private cabins. So anything activity is in the open. You have to pay extra to be allocated a single “cabin”. Also the most stupid of charges was £1 per extra towel. I mean the towels are so old and thin and become drenched with one sit in the sauna or shower. Being charged for a fresh towel is a bit of joke. Or at least give people one extra. They tell you after giving you the towel and rely on a sign that’s impossible to see as there are about 50 things on the wall Clientele - everyone is different so it’s whatever works for you but 95% was 40+ and 75% was 50+ Facilities are very average. The wet sauna is actually decent. Will give them that. Dry sauna isn’t hot. Hot tub is very old. Weird layout. Sauna, showers and hot tub on the ground floor with the locked cabins that you pay extra for. Upstairs there is half the he side with tables and chairs for I have no idea what. The other half is the dark room. Overall I would avoid. Don’t waste your money.

Totally recommended . It was great when it was opened all night during the weekends. Not doing this again ?

Place kept very very clean, thanks Nick and the team!! Sunday afternoon was busy with guys all shapes, all ages, shy, no shy, engaging, no engaging. Staff friendly at the reception, complimentary cofffee and tea at the bar upstairs, nice touch. Temperatures kept right all over the place, steam room very hot, jacuzzi hot. Be careful with the floor, can be very slippery in some area. The bar upstairs felt more like a formal tea salon with old chairs but cute ;D

Been a couple of times in the last few months, after several years hiatus. All amenities working very fine, hot sauna, hot hammam, bubbly jacuzzi. Staff fine. Comparing and contrasting with Glasgow pipeworks, well, may be unfair; it could do better given Edinburgh is the capital city. However Glasgow is a bigger city so it makes sense that Edinburgh Steamworks should be smaller. Two issues that could be improved: 1. the price point (not competitive in the upper 10s to £20) 2. many surfaces are slippery and (sorry to say) makes the place dangerous at times (ask specialist contractors for non-slippery finishes) The glory hole area of the maze is a nice addition over the previous layout (when guys use it the way it’s designed for). Loosing a maze cabin for a public sling is more questionable; not sure that public sling works; happy to be proven wrong, of course. Ultimately what makes a sauna is the guys in there. Walk in with, and keep, the right friendly and focused mindset, and everyone will benefit to have a terrific experience :@

The disgusting sauna i have ever seen ,very dark even not 5 people inside JQuzi is not working They don't turn on heater of sauna even I will never come back Waste of money

Visited Monday. Nick on the front desk is really friendly. Although small, This is one of the friendliest and cleanest saunas in the UK.

Was there during Bearscots recently and found it to be a nice experience overall. It was very busy during the event but I visited on other days too and had a good time. Staff were willing to have a chat which is always nice and the venue is kept clean. I really loved the layout of the steam room and that it was HOT! Only one advisory for visitors. Mind your step when exiting the wet room area and heading upstairs. Use the handrail. (Common sense I know but some people have complained about this for some reason). I'll certainly be back to Steamworks when I visit Edinburgh again.

Visited here yesterday afternoon, weds 16th oct 2025. And I must say, haven’t had a better time in a sauna for years!! The glory holes wee very busy and the dark room was on fire!! This place is exactly what gay saunas should be, straight to the point and exactly what it says on the tin lol. I. Don’t think this place needs an upgrade at all, quite like it sleasy and no frills, we all know exactly what we go for and it was there in abundance yesterday. Don’t change a thing guys, it fits the bill very well

Lots of fun. Mixed crowd. Bit cramped on upper floor and showers weak and barely lukewarm. Free coffee/tea.
