Good clean rooms in a historic hotel. Good food and excellent service. Location Good for surrounding towns

Just awesome

We (myself,Husband, daughter & her boyfriend) stayed at the Chequers Inn, which is one of the Green King pubs/inns, over the August bank holiday weekend. The rooms are either situated above the pub or there is a old coach house building which has 4 rooms. Myself and Husband were in the coach house, my daughter and her boyfriend we're in the main building. We all said the beds were really comfy. I had a walk-in shower in our bathroom - which was really powerful. My daughter had a bath in their bathroom with an above bath shower. The rooms in general are comfortable- but a little basic. Because the hotel and coach house are very old buildings the floorboards are really very creaky, our room was on the ground floor and every time the occupants above us moved- we knew it. Also the rooms were very hot, there was a fan in both our rooms and that helped. My daughter had the heat rising from the restaurant and she found their room too hot. The staff were very attentive and seemed genuinely happy to help/chat with us. Breakfast was tasty, especially the poached eggs - which were cooked to perfection, there was a good selection of hot & cold food choices. We chose not to eat an evening meal in the hotel, instead, one night we decided to book a table at an Indian restaurant which is a six minute drive away, we decided to book a taxi so we could all have a drink but our six minute taxi ride was £30 one way. You really need a car whilst staying at the hotel to get anywhere because of the remote village it's situated in, but it's a really good location to travel to other towns, we went to Brighton for the day and that was a 30-40 min ride away. Due to the the location of the hotel and there being no light pollution around of a night time on a clear night the sky just sparkled with the amount of visible stars. If you're after a peaceful weekend getaway then the Chequers will be perfect for you.

What a lovely hotel in this charming rural location. The rooms are small but clean. We enjoyed dinner and breakfast on-site. Friendly staff and good food. Highly recommended to return. The hotel is fairly centrally located for visiting the coast, the London area, and other beautiful places. An enthusiastic local woman pointed out to us that the Winnie-the-Pooh forest was only a few miles away. Even though we have somewhat older children, it was still a fun walk.

Everything is perfect but but but kindly keep toothpaste and toothbrush as an extra toiletries .

Excellent choice for a very well-maintained, clean room, and sufficient for every need. A good selection for breakfast, and friendly and helpful staff. You can also have lunch, an aperitif, or dinner with a good selection of well-cooked and beautifully presented dishes. A good selection of beers, wines, and spirits. Spend some time here and you'll surely appreciate it 👍👍👍

Fantastic little gem. We hade a great short stay room's was very clean and nicely decorated. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Great breakfast and the food in the restaurant was delicious. We definitely will come back for longer time.

Great pub/hotel al staff friendly and couldn't do enough. Food was good. Its a bit off the beaten track but central for most towns. Just watch out for pot holes lol.

Overnight business trip, late arrival due to M25, the team were spot on. Checked in, great nights sleep, brilliant breakfast and very well priced especially with the great quality food. Lots of parking and amazing staff at checkin and breakfast, well done to them.

Had the most sensational Mothers' Day family lunch here this last Sunday. The food was amazing and exceptional value with the set three-course meal.
