Las Balsas Relais & Chateaux

Very unhelpful receptionist. Poor value for money. I arrived at the hotel despite not having been able to make a reservation for afternoon tea beforehand (because they don't answer the phone, and their booking website wouldn't load). I received completely discourteous treatment from the receptionist, Luisina, which surprised me for a Relais & Châteaux property. I left the hotel and a few minutes later saw on the booking website that there was availability for afternoon tea at ALL times. I returned 5 minutes later with a reservation and a different staff member appeared to apologize. Regarding the experience: I started by ordering tea, and they brought a different flavor. The accompaniments left much to be desired; I don't feel it met my expectations. The staff also didn't pour the tea into the cup or refill the water glass frequently enough when it was empty—details that, for what one pays, one expects exceptional service. Given the receptionist's behavior, I expected the ordeal to be worthwhile, but it wasn't. Marcos was the kindest and most genuine of all the staff.

The hotel is super charming, the location is privileged, and the service is impeccable! BUT the restaurant doesn't match the hotel's standards. The food is terrible, with lots of pointless inventions. And a detail… the hotel asked if we had any dietary restrictions, and I immediately informed them of my aversion to bell peppers. Both dishes we ordered came with bell peppers, and the alternatives were awful. We ended up accepting the dishes and eating them cold… it doesn't match the level and price of the hotel. Breakfast… weak… the food and the hotel didn't go together.

I didn't go. They're out of my budget. A dream place.

We went for afternoon tea in December; it was incredibly expensive and the food was poor, which is probably obvious since we were the only ones there. It's striking how much it's changed; I remembered it differently. The service was average, considering the Relais & Châteaux title, and the price didn't match the experience. Finally, another friend joined us, but we couldn't include her because they had already prepared tea for four, and the explanation was literally that there were only four scones. Disappointing!
