The São Paulo LGBTQIA+ Pride Parade is the world's largest pride event by any measure. Since its first march in 1997, it has grown exponentially: by 2006, Guinness World Records recognized it as the planet's biggest pride parade. Today, between 3 and 5 million people flood Avenida Paulista for the annual parade, making it not just the largest gay event on Earth but one of the largest public gatherings of any kind.
The 2026 parade marks the 30th edition of São Paulo Pride — a milestone that will make this already historic march even more extraordinary. The parade route runs down Avenida Paulista, São Paulo's iconic central boulevard, lined with office towers and cultural institutions, all draped in rainbow flags for the day. Over 20 floats, sound systems blasting at maximum volume, and thousands of marching groups create an overwhelming spectacle.
São Paulo's pride parade reflects Brazil's complex reality: a country with some of the world's most vibrant LGBTQ+ culture existing alongside serious threats to queer rights. The parade is explicitly political as much as it is celebratory, with each year carrying a theme chosen to address current threats to the community.
