Capital Pride è il pride annuale di Ottawa e uno dei pride canadesi più significativi — distinto soprattutto dalla cornice: il Parliament Hill, sfondo che nessun altro pride al mondo può vantare. Ad agosto porta circa 100.000 partecipanti e spettatori nel cuore della città per una settimana di eventi che culmina nella Pride Parade attraverso le strade della capitale nazionale, con Centre Block e Peace Tower visibili sullo skyline. La data ad agosto distingue Capital Pride dalla concentrazione di giugno dei grandi pride canadesi: scelta deliberata che sfrutta il mese più caldo e soleggiato di Ottawa, permettendo all'evento di affermarsi senza la concorrenza diretta di Toronto, Montréal o Vancouver. La settimana del pride include la parata, eventi comunitari, performance in venue lungo Bank Street e in città, programmi sui diritti umani e attività bilingui che riflettono il carattere ufficiale delle due lingue di Ottawa. La presenza del Parlamento come sfondo dà alla celebrazione una dimensione esplicitamente politica unica tra i pride canadesi: è la comunità LGBTQ+ che si raduna alla sede del governo federale, in un Paese che ha legalizzato il matrimonio egualitario, depenalizzato l'omosessualità e ampliato progressivamente i diritti nell'ultimo mezzo secolo. La partecipazione di 100.000 persone in un'area metropolitana di un milione segna una straordinaria mobilitazione comunitaria.
