Fort Young Hotel and Dive Resort

A very mixed experience at Fort Young. We booked here for our last night in Dominica: convenient for catching the ferry the next morning, and we were looking for a more conventional hotel experience. The welcome was pleasant, but there was no explanation of the hotel: which restaurant/bar was open, where the pool was, etc., which would have been very helpful as it's a real maze! We paid in advance at check-in, at the reception's request. Fine, no problem. I did mention, however, that dinner and breakfast would incur an additional charge, and we could have had everything at once, but I didn't want to upset the otherwise very friendly staff. We discovered our room, pleasantly surprised to have been upgraded to a sea-view room, even though we had requested a standard room. The room was comfortable and nice, but had a strong musty smell (coming from the bathroom?). There were only two towels for four of us, but this was resolved with a quick phone call to reception. We also had a problem with the toilet flush, which was also fixed very quickly by maintenance. Thank you very much. We were disappointed by the restaurant, which served a buffet. We wish we had known this beforehand, as we certainly wouldn't have gone there under those circumstances. The final straw was when, after we asked for and signed our bill, we were finally caught in the common areas and asked to pay immediately! We didn't have our credit cards with us, even though we were going to eat in the hotel. So we had to go back to our room to pay for our buffet and two glasses of wine… we felt humiliated and treated like criminals. I still don't understand what they were thinking… the staff told me it was their policy, and that they don't issue bills. Our last impression of Dominica was marred by this bad hotel experience, and the disappointment is all the greater as we were looking forward to staying in what seemed to be a local institution.

Stayed here on the 20th of June and absolutely loved the hotel. Rooms were large and are beautiful and the views from the balcony was stunning. We had food at the Bar which was ok but I have heard that the Palasaides Restaurant is great. It is a 10 minute walk from the Ferry Terminal, just turf right and it is the hotel at the end. Showers were hot with great pressure. I would highly recommend!

We had a wonderful three-night stay at Fort Young Hotel during our trip to Dominica. Its location was incredibly convenient after arriving by ferry from Guadeloupe and made a perfect base for exploring both Roseau and the rest of the island. We took advantage of the Summer by Nature package, which offered a great room discount for an extended stay and included an excursion to Trafalgar Falls and Titou Gorge. Our guide, Nick, was fantastic—friendly, engaging, and exceptionally knowledgeable about Dominica's history and natural environment. It was one of the highlights of our trip. The hotel staff provided outstanding hospitality from the moment we arrived. Although our room was in the older, renovated section, it was clean, tastefully decorated, comfortable, and had a beautiful view of Roseau Harbour. It was a treat waking up one morning to watch a cruise ship sail into port. The breakfast buffet was excellent and well worth including with the room. We also enjoyed the happy hour offerings and special events in the bar, including watching World Cup matches with other guests. Fort Young's central location made it easy to walk to Roseau's restaurants and vibrant open-air market, while also being within easy driving distance of some of Dominica's best hiking destinations. This was our first stay at Fort Young Hotel, and it certainly won't be our last. We look forward to returning!

Cool hotel built around an old fort. It has a good attached restaurant and dive shop. And one of the best Shore dives I've ever done. Conveniently located in the heart of Roseau. It also has a very good restaurant on site. It can be a bit of a maze getting from the restaurant to the opposite tower of rooms. Inside my room key envelope there was a free drink coupon along with the Wi-Fi information... so watch for that. I was happy to have an ocean view room looking right out onto the cruise pier right over the dive shop.

I enjoyed many aspects of my stay at the Fort Young Hotel in January 2026; however, I feel compelled to share a concern regarding a business operating on the hotel property. During my stay, I purchased a gold bracelet from the jewelry store located within the hotel. As a visitor to Dominica, I felt comfortable making the purchase because the store’s location on the hotel property gave the impression that it was a trusted and reputable business associated with the hotel experience. Unfortunately, the bracelet broke within a month of purchase. After returning the item to the jewelry store for repair and receiving a receipt confirming that the store had taken possession of it, I was unable to obtain updates regarding the repair despite the store having my contact information. The matter has since escalated into a dispute concerning the return of the bracelet. While I understand that the jewelry store may operate independently from the hotel, I believe guests should be aware that businesses located on the property may not be owned or managed by the hotel. I would encourage the hotel to carefully review the businesses it hosts and to assist guests when serious customer service issues arise with vendors operating on its premises. I hope the hotel considers this feedback, as its reputation influenced my decision to patronize the jewelry store in the first place.

I recently took a group of 30 people to Fort Young to dive for a week. The dive shop team worked hard before and during the stay to make our diving an amazing experience. Fran, Billy, and Charleen in the shop kept things moving smoothly. They were gracious and helpful with the challenging logistics of a group this size. When a pair of dive boots were misplaced, Fran lent the diver her own boots so our diver didn’t miss a dive. Underwater, dive groups were large, but the dive masters were attentive, familiar with the dive sites, spotted great marine life, and kept an eye out without it feeling intrusive. Dive master Diante went above and beyond for a diver having significant anxiety. He calmed her down and got her back in the water diving again. It’s a quality operation with great staff. Bonus – the house reef is fantastic. Highly recommend for groups large and small.

Great place

Staff was excellent , rooms were really nice and clean . Diving was incredible. I really enjoyed the house reef and the ability to shore dive at your own leisure. The guided boat dives were incredible and the dive masters and boat crew did a great job . The boats were newer and well kept . Definitely a trip to remember….. Thank you!!
