I feel this hotel profiles people, and as a way to keep certain types of people from staying there, they won't take certain types of debit/credit cards. Rules are rules, however my problem was, I didn't have a pre-pay credit card, I had my banks debit card. I called and asked about availability and over the phone she said "we have no rooms". So, I booked the room on Expedia, I have been traveling across country for business and have been using Expedia a lot. So, I called back and told her I booked a room and her response was "OH Really, how did you do that." She said, "Well you know we take your debit or credit and you need $100 for a deposit" and I said, "Great that is fine". When I get there, they had stuff everywhere, I guess they were remodeling, but thats fine. I give her my Id and debit and she pulled out this sign and tells me I can't stay there. I lost my debit card in Reno, I had to cancel it and go to my bank in Salt Lake City and get a new card from them, but banks always give you a temporary card until you get home and get your normal one in the mail. I haven't had one problem using this card. She tells me I can't stay because of the card. However, the sign said you cant have prepay credit cards, mine was from my bank. I pulled up my bank account and said I will show you the card numbers are linked to my account which has plenty of money in it. I also showed her I had plenty of cash and I was more then happy to pay however. Yet, she was not willing to try to look or help me at all. She was just like you can't stay here, leave. It was already late, after midnight, I have been on the road for days. It felt really horrible and it also felt to me like they made this rule just as another way to profile people and or deny them a room. I said lets call my bank, lets look at my account, I can prove this is my banks actual card, and anybody with a bank account, who has lost there card, knows this is what they give you when that happens. Anyways, I will never stay here and I will tell other people not to as well because I feel like we should be helping each other, lifting each other up, especially when somebody needs a little compassion or understanding, the fact that my card say Bank of ..... proved it wasn't a prepay credit card. It is an actual banks debit card from a large and well known bank, who I have been with for years. I reread their sign and my situation did not fall under any of there guidelines, so technically, she should have been able to work with me and at least try to help figure it out. Maybe called a manager or owner and explain the situation, but she didn't even try and Instead turned me away. Also, When I had called earlier and she told me they had no rooms, that was strange too, because there parking lot was empty and they had plenty of rooms on Expedia. I paid Expedia for that room, with that card, and I would have gladly paid them a $400 dollar deposit in cash, as long as I got it back the next day. On top of given them my Debit card to put on file. It was strange. The end. (I normally don't write reviews, I just have never had this happen before and Ive been staying in a lot of hotels). However, Chicagos Getaway Hostel isn't far and they are awesome and totally inexpensive. You can get a private room there for half the cost.
