Duo Housing

It’s a budget hostel, so you get what you pay for, but there are better ones. I would recommend one of DC’s capsule hostels over this one. I spent 8 nights here while waiting to move into summer intern housing at GW while doing a summer program for grad school here in DC. The building is an old row house. While it’s definitely been renovated, the rooms are very hot and crowded when full with no fans or ventilation. There are as many as 12 people to a room (6 bunks). There is also no semblance of privacy, with not even curtains. The mattresses are decently comfortable and my sheets appeared and seemed acceptably clean, though your experience may vary. Rooms are poor in terms of secure storage space- There are rusty lockers that don’t always close or latch correctly, and you need your own lock. There is a luggage room on the basement level. The power outlets on the walls by every bed are much appreciated, though I always prefer when a hostel provides a small shelf by every bed too to act as a nightstand to leave a phone, wallet or water bottle on. No such luck here. The place seemed a bit dark, dingy and worn, especially on the lower (basement) level, considering how many beds they turn around here. The flooring is iffy, ranging from tile to ill-fitted hardwood to worn-out and threadbare carpet. The drop-tile ceilings on the lower level have water stains, including one directly over my top bunk bed. You can hear water rushing through the pipes in the thin walls when someone flushes a toilet upstairs. The place is mostly clean and smelling fresh despite the no-shoes policy, but can still smell a bit dank and musty- Particularly on the basement level. At least one cockroach was spotted in the basement room I was staying in, though not by me. Someone else in the room spotted it. The upstairs kitchen area is clean, tidy and well-kept for the most part, but the fridges and pantry shelving are packed with people’s food that may or may not be spoiled, and it needs better organization. The rooftop patio is nice. The free pancakes in the mornings are a decent offering, and the basket of free canned/boxed food left by others in the kitchen is appreciated. The staff are attentive but can be a bit unfriendly and gruff. The 24-hr desk service is appreciated, though. You don’t find many hostels where the desk is staffed for even a few hours a day, let alone 24. The location in DC is great, but I’d go for a capsule hostel instead and have some more peace and privacy.

TERRIBLE. The service and attention from the moment I arrived was terrible. I arrived at 6 AM. Check-in is at 3 PM, and they wouldn't let me in even ten minutes early. When I arrived, I requested a room change to a bed without stairs; he not only didn't even try to help me, but he also yelled at me and threatened to kick me out (his name is ROAN). DO NOT GO. TERRIBLE."

Good housing for those looking for affordable and functional living arrangements

Please exercise caution regarding this establishment. I booked a room through Ratehawk listed as a "Standard Double Room with Private Bathroom," but this turned out to be a deceptive scam rather than a genuine offer. Upon arrival, I discovered that *all* the rooms were shared accommodations. The staff member tried strenuously to convince me to accept a shared room; I informed him that this constituted fraud and deception, and requested to cancel my reservation. He refused to cancel it. I then contacted Ratehawk directly, and they replied claiming that the hotel employee had, in fact, offered me the correct room type. I returned to the employee, but he refused to allow me to enter the room to photograph it—acting as if *I* were the one attempting a fraudulent scheme—and even raised his voice in an attempt to intimidate me. I proceeded to record video footage of myself both inside and outside the hotel, contacted Ratehawk once again, and they subsequently refunded my money. I urge everyone to be extremely cautious when dealing with this establishment.

Staff very rude and not respectful. Stating my university color is dirty and he support other color of school in blue. I kept quiet. Next he come back again next round and peek at my laptop without permission and accuse me cheating with chatgpt doing my hwk. Actually i m not submitting or doing hwk.i m simplifying complex math equation. I said I used to summarise note and he say he would go teach,he hv an eye on me and ask all kids not using ai. This is a very controling n not respectful act from the staff for invading space of someone who just visit few days for a stay and it doesn't make sense or there is none of his right to provoke comment judge or even think he has power to control over a traveller hwk. I don't know wht issue he has for my university or he has his own control sense going on.
