The Kirby Hotel & J Paul's Dining Room

We stumbled across the Kirby hotel when looking for a place to stay for a wedding, and we are so glad that we did! The rooms are beautifully curated, cozy, and well kept. Lots of little nice vintage touches and modern amenities in a gorgeous Antique house full of natural wood trim and furnishings. The breakfast options were absolutely delicious, and the recipes had exceptional attention to detail, even in simple dishes like Belgian waffles, and we were served gourmet coffee in hand thrown pottery cups by a local artist. Staff are extremely helpful and friendly, and focused on hospitality. We hope to come back and enjoy dinner at the restaurant sometime soon.

Staying at the Kirby House is a great experience. The room has a great feel. The updated amenities with the some of the original look. You feel like you are staying in the house built in 1890. The breakfast in the morning is excellent. Chris makes great food and has a great attitude. Courtney was very kind each morning. As well as helpful. Lastly we had dinner on our last night. Started with the shishito peppers which were cooked just right. The dinner was great. I had the prime rib that came out perfect med/rare. The wife had the scallops which she loved. Everything from start to finish was excellent.

Our stay at the Kirby Hotel this past weekend was nothing short of exceptional. We spent three nights at the bed and breakfast, and from the moment we arrived, we felt genuinely welcomed. The owners are some of the kindest, most hospitable people we’ve met. They went above and beyond to accommodate every request and made us feel like part of their family. Each morning, breakfast was absolutely delicious fresh, thoughtfully prepared, and the perfect way to start the day. Especially those waffles. Yum!! We also had dinner at J Paul’s Restaurant, and it exceeded every expectation. We had a group of 13, yet every meal came out at the same time, hot and perfectly prepared. That’s impressive in itself, but the quality of the food made it even more remarkable. The prime rib was one of the best I’ve ever had, and every appetizer was outstanding. The baked Brie, in particular, was unforgettable. The atmosphere is romantic, cozy, and inviting, making it the perfect place for a special evening. The owners were present throughout the night, personally checking on guests and making sure every detail was perfect. That level of care and hospitality is rare. If I had one complaint, it’s that three nights simply weren’t enough. We left already looking forward to our next visit. The Kirby Hotel and J Paul’s provide an experience that’s hard to find these days warm, personal, and truly memorable. If Michelin stars were awarded based on hospitality as well as food, they’d absolutely deserve one. We can’t wait to come back!

Chef, One of the best, if not the best, meals that I have had since moving to the area 5years ago. The sauce on the bourguignon took me back to working for one of my early mentors….an incredible and heart warming bite. Thank you so much Toph.

Charming and comfortable room (Dolly Madison), delicious big breakfast and friendly staff. Great location too for those on bikes!

We were not able to eat here, but we stayed at the hotel for a night during a trip along the coast of Michigan. The Kirby is SPECTACULAR. Our room was adorable and spacious with a private bathroom right across the hall. We had all the amenities we needed and the staff is incredibly friendly. Chris and Melanie (I think were their names) were happy to give us all kinds of great recommendations for places to check out in Saugatuk, as well as other towns to visit on our trip. We ended up taking a lot of their advice and had the best trip. Thank you so much for your phenomenal hospitality!
