Unscripted Durham

Awesome hotel! They have a pool that's rooftop the 3rd floor overlooking the city. Beds are super comfy. And the free morning coffee ☕ 😺 was very good!

genuinely one of the worst places ive ever stayed in. You have better luck at a budget hotel. Pool is MINUSCULE might as well be called a hot tub. We checked in an hour after the regular check in time and they told us our room wasn’t ready and were rude as hell. Also we got a KING for my sister and I and they gave us a queen. Apparently we called them and they informed us that they oversold the room which is why we didn’t get the right one. The ac is broken, and to make matters worse we found out the pool is open to the public with a $15 pass so the pool is murky, PACKED, and loud as HELLLLLLL. I would rather sleep in my car than return to this hotel. Oh and as I was leaving and picking up my things there was a roach under my suitcase. Nightmare

The rooms have no windows, they charge more than the booking amount and cannot explain why.

Shaleka was nothing but amazing her customer service her attitude she’s amazing , I was already having a rough night and she made everything better for me I came in with a straight face and left to my room with a smile on my face thank you Shaleka you definitely deserve a raise!!!

Room was very small but quaint. However my main grievance is with the false advertising. The hotel claims to have a grab and go breakfast but no such thing exist. You are set up for a standard hotel continental breakfast by the wording on their website, posters around the hotel, and by how the hotel reception refers to breakfast hut when you actually attempt to eat you realize you have to place an order like it is a restaurant. Not only that but the choices are small and the food all frozen! So great for a night to sleep in Durham but you better have planned ahead on what food you are going to eat.

Absysmal experience. I recently stayed at the Unscripted Hotel in downtown Durham for one night (check-in on July 4 and check-out on July 5), and unfortunately, the experience fell well below my expectations. One of the biggest disappointments was the pool. It is much smaller than it appears, but what was most frustrating was learning only after checking in that the hotel sells $15 day passes to the general public. As a paying overnight guest, I expected a level of exclusivity and a relaxing resort-style atmosphere. Instead, the pool was crowded with non-guests, making it difficult to enjoy the amenity that was one of the reasons I booked the property. I asked when does the pool close, they said 9 PM. Then asked when does the pool close to the general public, the answer was 9 PM when the bar closes. The condition of the pool itself was also concerning. The water was murky, dirty, overcrowded and cleanliness appeared to be lacking. During my visit, people using day passes were eating watermelon while standing in the pool, which further detracted from the overall experience. Ironically, a legitimate hotel guest had a sweet dog by the pool that was far better behaved than many of the people using day passes. What makes this especially disappointing is that the hotel's website does not clearly disclose that the pool is open to the public through inexpensive day passes. Had I known this beforehand, I likely would have chosen a different property. This level of public access significantly diminishes the sense of privacy and exclusivity that guests paying full room rates should reasonably expect. As a result of the overcrowded and underwhelming pool experience, I ended up checking out early—while many of the day-pass visitors, who paid only a fraction of what I did for my stay, continued enjoying the facilities. Overall, this experience did not reflect the quality or standards I associate with the Hyatt brand. Greater transparency about public pool access and improved maintenance of the pool area would go a long way toward improving the guest experience rather than the false advertising. I will never stay there again and am fighting for a refund.

Great location. Service was prompt and pleasant. Rooms were nicely redone, but did leave me restless with the constant mechanical noise. Thankfully I was not near the elevator. The advertising left me a bit misled regarding breakfast options, which were fairly non-existent.

Yes. The location is centralized and with in walking distance to everything including the DPAC. The staff is amazing and the only reason for the 3 stars. The rooms, they are less desirable. There was no shower door, water ends up everywhere on the floor when stepping out so make sure you put a towel down. There is a gap at the bottom of the entrance door (forgot to take a picture), put another towel down. The walls are super thin and the windows/door block no sound, you will hear everything, including a random party at 5:04a. Lastly, the pool is OPEN to the public. So if you are traveling with children please keep this in mind. Maybe this was just my room and it's location but I won't be back.

Very nice room however, found a large dead cockroach in room. They did switch us to another room. We went to the concert and came back and saw two large roaches near the pool area. We definitely slept with the lights on that night. Our room was near the pool area. Other than that the second room was bug free.

Sorry about the photos being messy. These were as we were leaving. It was lovely when we came in. Somewhat noisy (it's a bar and lounge so some should be expected) But I should have called down to the office about a disruption outside the room, and glad another guest called on an early morning party. They were quick to respond so please call if there are noises outside of the music and normal people noise. Will absolutely come back when we visit Durham or DPAC again!
