Associação Íris Angola

Associação Íris Angola is Angola's best-known LGBTI+ organisation. It became the first to get legal registration, in 2018. It's based in Luanda and works on health, human rights, community support and public education. In some years it has run the Festíris cultural festival around 17 May, the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia. Angola decriminalised same-sex relations in its 2019 penal code, but social attitudes are still conservative, and much of Íris's work happens through trusted networks, not public events.
