この場所について Champ de Mars

This listing is filed as a hotel at 9 Dauphine Street in Port Louis, Mauritius, with a website that points to a small guesthouse near Champ de Mars. Champ de Mars is also the name of the city's historic horse-racing track, one of the oldest in the Southern Hemisphere. The 3,000-plus Google reviews almost certainly belong to the racecourse, not a guesthouse, so treat the rating with caution. If you are booking a room, confirm details directly with the property. Mauritius decriminalised same-sex relations in 2023, but the island is socially conservative and has no real gay scene.

Hotel is right by the racecourse and not very well located for the waterfront. Whilst not unsafe to walk back to at night it is very quiet and isolated. The rooms were very basic and furnished with formica wardrobe and desk. The shower had seen better days and the toilet ran constantly when flushed. Walls are paper thin and I could hear the conversation of the people next door before I was moved. I wouldn't stay here again if I had a choice. Air con was very noisy and not easily adjustible with the remote control. On the plus side - safe in the room and the wifi was reliable. Very friendly and helpful staff.

My room was pleasant and from the 5th floor the view over Port Louis to the harbour was spectacular. It's a 15 minute walk to the CBD and the waterfront, or a short cab ride. The food was fine - I had breakfast and dinner in the restaurant there every night, and vegetarian options are available - but don't go there for a gourmet experience. There were a few practical problems which we solved but the main thing I loved about this hotel was the obliging and friendly staff. They went out of their way to make my 10-day stay a happy one. I will go there again.

I moved to Champ de Mars from the place I stayed at the beach side during my first four days in Mauritius. It was a welcome change. My room at Champ de Mars was cleaner with clean beddings and a hot shower. It was also walking distance into town, the market and the mall at the Port. The staff were helpful. The only down side is that I had no tea station in my room and that a TV remote was not avaialble till I asked for one. Otherwise it was a good stay.

This family run hotel is fabulous. The husband-wife team from France that own the hotel, were very gracious and invited me to their Mauritius Independence Day party on the sixth floor of the hotel, where I met a lot of interesting people, including Embassy personnel too. My room was nice. The dinner was excellent, and they even made lunch for me one day, gratuitously. The front desk staff is super helpful. I made some side trips to other islands, and they always allowed me to have my favorite room when I returned. And they let me use their computer too, how nice. I got to meet the owners brother, and share wine, a meal, and stories with him. And also, the hotel is right across the street from the horse racing track, how convenient. You can also walk to many nice attractions. I really enjoyed my stay here, I personally recommend this hotel. I stayed at over 100 different hotels in 2016, and this was one of the best.

Outdated, decrepit and pricey, this hotel only survives because of the lack of any other mid-budget choice in Port Louis. If faced with a bit of competition, this place would have folded years ago. The breakfast was awful. If you want to visit Port Louis, go to the Suffren instead, if you don't mind paying 4x more. The view of the racecourse, fast check-in are the only plus sides.

Very nice hotel in town, near champ de mars horse race yard. With restaurants facilities, very clean & secure room. Hotel workers very professional & nice. If you need hotel for business trip I recommend this. Because very easy to get access all over the town.

We booked this, because we want accommodation close to the trailhead of the Le Pouce hike, and this was the only choice. The lobby as well as the room was clean and tidy, the room was spacious, the bed was comfy. Yes, the hotel is not new and need some maintenance, but the stuff is doing their best to run it well. We were quite happy with our choice as the city centre was close, the staff was friendly, the breakfast was okay. If I need to write one downsize.. well, maybe a bit overprices compared to the conditions. We can recommend this place.

Not for family. Boring breakfast and they provide drinking water from tap. Regularly they gave us bread butter and cake. Reception person is nice and he help us to guide. But atmosphere of hotel is not suitable for family. Not for vacation.

Location of this hotel is nearby the city centre. You can go by walking to a several tourism spot around port louise, like a natural museum, parliament building, etc. The hotel is clean enough, so with it's price I think it is worth to stay.

I had a very pleasant stay here. The staff is wonderful and professional. The hotel is located at the heart of Port Louis and as I had alot of business in town to work on documentation, I could walk most of the time to the main government offices. On Saturdays you can watch the horse racing from the hotel itself. The hotel is one of the more affordable hotels in the city, but you still get a modern looking room, with shower and toilet attached. Desk, bed, ac, tv and telephone in the room. The lighting could use some work, as its dark at night to read, but I really loved my stay here. They can do room service if you ask and the breakfast included in the price of the room was satisfactory and if you need something different, just ask and they will get it for you. Lunch and dinner need to be ordered in advance. The free WI FI internet worked very well. Rooms cleaned daily & very well done. The towels, soaps changed daily. The bed sheets very clean. I will indeed go to Hotel Champ de Mars again.

Cards are not accepted, only cash. Children and women enter the stands free of charge, while men pay 300 rupees. Parking is available, but you'll have to search for it. Tickets are sold throughout the races. The place is atmospheric, worth a visit—a combination of poverty and wealth.

Coolest horse racing experience with fab atmosphere. Smallish racing infrastructure gives one an opportunity to be close to the action adding to the atmosphere.
