この場所について Morino Lodge

Morino Lodge is a small Western-run lodge in the Happo area of Hakuba, within walking distance of the Happo-One gondola. It's a mainstream gay-friendly lodge, not a gay hotel. It rates 4.7 on Google from about 80 reviews and is priced in the upper-mid range. It's busiest in the ski season from December to March, when Hakuba fills up quickly, so book well ahead for winter. In summer the area is used for hiking and is much quieter.

Just back from the Morino alps retreat chalet: The place is great. Nothing to say about the chalet itself, the pictures speak for themselves, but this is what I can add: It is clean, spacious, fully equipped kitchen with enough stuff to cook and serve 6~8 persons – so not just a couple of coffee mugs and spoons as it is sometime the case. This is a place where you can have dinner at night instead of going out all the time. The place also includes a Bluetooth speaker a TV with an Apple TV device, which is also very convenient if you want to watch something else than the Japanese news. The place ticks all the boxes you would expect from a place in Japan: central heating from the floor, very comfy bed, a shower and a bathtub, big wardrobes in each room, etc. The big balcony also adds to the convenience – if you are a smoker, or simply if you want to enjoy your breakfast in fresh and cold air facing the forest One thing to note: This is not a ski in/ski out, you have to walk for 5~8mns to reach the slopes. But the best part of it is probably the staff. The guys are so helpful. They will give you a lift here or there anytime as long as they are available. They literally took us to/from the slopes every day, also brought us to the supermarket when we needed, picked us from//dropped us to the train station etc. This is not some sort of included taxi service that you pay for in the first place, this is pure kindness and complementary treatment. They don’t have to do this, but they do it – just to make your life easier.

Family of 4, kids 7 and 9. The staff at the lodge were so helpful, welcoming and hospitable. One of the best services they offer is to be able to request drop offs and pickups within about a 10 min drive of the accommodation. The pizzas for dinner were huge and delicious and the breakfasts were great too. Highly recommend these guys we had a great time and our kids didnt want to leave.

Second time visiting Hakuba and 1st time staying at Morino Lodge. From the moment we arrived all staff were welcoming and friendly. The lodge is situated within a woody area so while having breakfast we had beautiful panoramic snowy woodland views. It took about 10 minutes to walk into town and there are two direct ways depending on which area you would like to go to. 1 route was along a road in the woods and the other was down a dirt path which took you to Happo One gondola. I have read comments about people finding it difficult to carry skis and equipment down, which I would agree with but the hotel did give lifts down when possible. We rented a car from the airport so was able to drive across the valley and park comfortably at the hotel. The parking at the lodge is right outside and they provide snow shovels etc to help if needed. We also had to leave our car keys at reception when we left the car and went out incase it needed to be moved for the snow plough to do its thing. The lodge serves yummy pizzas at a good price and also delivers to your room or within Hakuba. The living room area was a lovely place to relax with sofas, tv and games to entertain all the family. The views were beautiful and plenty of space to enjoy a meal. You could also bring tour own food back and use their microwave to cook. Breakfast was very basic with few things to choose from: a few cereals, a small plate of fruit, croissants and toast. Each day they did offer a hot breakfast as well which included, porridge with cinnamon and apple, French toast and bacon, pancakes (we missed this day 😢), poached egg and avocado, BLT, breakfast burrito. They were all delicious and were flexible with adjusting ingredients. Would definitely stay again.

This was a no frills lodge that does some things very well. The rooms are sparse and mostly clean. WiFi is spotty. It’s very quiet and peaceful there and off the main track. So it’s a bit of a walk to the gondola in ski boots but really close to a busy bus stop. The breakfast was a set menu and mostly western. The breakfast staff couldn’t seem to figure out the espresso machine which was a shame because it looks beautiful. What this lodge does really well is their service. When we stayed they always had someone available to drive us just about anywhere in one of their many vans. They made appointments at private onsens for us and had daily recommendations about the best places to ski. Their kitchen makes great pizzas to order every night and has a cozy lounge to hang out in- playing games or drinking some good beers they have on tap. Again, the young staff doesn’t know much about their stocked bar (liquors, sake, wine) so don’t ask for anything fancy but they can keep beer mugs full. If you’re able to manage your expectations you will love this place as a cozy retreat in the woods.
