Enjoyed a positively exceptional stay at 5-Star, The Standard, Mahanakhon, in October 2026. Fun! Bright! Modern! Clean! Comfortable! Dined at The Ojo Restaurant…Mexican Cuisine, Thai-Style…Very Delicious! Braved the Skywalk way up on the 78th Floor! 😅

It’s not a five star hotel and hotels.com lists it. 3.5-4 stars. It wasn’t the spectacular experience i thought i’d have. I’d stay elsewhere next time

I had a very enjoyable stay at The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon. The hotel does a great deal exceptionally well, particularly the room, breakfast service and most of the staff, although a few inconsistencies prevented the experience from feeling completely seamless. My first impression of the main lobby was slightly unusual. It is relatively small and felt almost strangely quiet late in the evening, although I later discovered the much larger and very cosy bar area beyond it. Check-in itself was excellent: warm, professional and thorough, and the main-lobby team remained consistently kind and welcoming. My main disappointment was the room allocation. I had specifically requested a high floor, which matters to me, but was given the 10th floor despite numerous guest floors above. I understand that requests cannot always be fulfilled; what bothered me more was that it was never acknowledged or explained. The view was still perfectly good, but I would have appreciated some recognition of the request. The room itself was superb and essentially flawless: a corner room with floor-to-ceiling windows, a large bed and sofa, wooden flooring and warm lighting. I particularly appreciated the capsule coffee machine, automated blackout and privacy blinds, excellent rain shower and TOTO washlet. I never warmed to the rather dark guest-room corridors. Breakfast became one of the highlights. The à la carte dishes were excellent, the atmosphere pleasantly quiet, and the staff consistently outstanding and remarkably accommodating. The buffet itself, however, was not particularly vegetarian-friendly and varied from day to day. On one morning every prepared salad contained meat, fish or seafood, while the hot buffet offered virtually nothing vegetarian beyond potatoes and mushrooms. The muesli section also lacked plain unsweetened nuts and seeds. The staff made up for this. I asked for papaya, pumpkin seeds, vegetarian som tam and stir-fried vegetables without fish or oyster sauce, and they made every reasonable effort to provide what I wanted. My advice to vegetarian guests is simple: ask. Looking only at the buffet could be disappointing, but once I spoke to the staff I had a very satisfying breakfast every morning. The pool area was lovely, modern and surrounded by greenery, with plenty of shade in the afternoon. I also liked the effective, temperature-adjustable steam room, although I missed having a Finnish or dry sauna alongside it. The complimentary Mahanakhon Sky Beach voucher, including a drink, was a worthwhile extra. WhatsApp contact with the hotel also made requests very convenient. The one area where service remained noticeably inconsistent was the ground-floor entrance. Some shifts were excellent, and checkout was particularly good, with helpful luggage assistance and a warm send-off. On another evening, however, I said “good evening” twice to the staff member at the desk and received no acknowledgement either time while he continued looking at his computer. There were no other guests involved, and I found that remarkably rude for a five-star hotel. It should not overshadow the many excellent staff members I encountered, but it illustrates the inconsistency. The location is extremely convenient, with the BTS very close and many restaurants and other places within walking distance. Even the waterfront is around two kilometres away, which I comfortably walked in the evening. Overall, I had a great stay. The room was excellent, breakfast service outstanding, the pool area lovely, the Sky Beach benefit genuinely worthwhile and most of the staff wonderful. Better consistency at the ground-floor entrance, more thoughtful vegetarian choices at breakfast and greater acknowledgement of room requests would make an already very good experience even more polished. I would happily stay here again.
