Pleasant park, free access, ideal for walking or practicing sports. Its gardens are very well maintained.
Superb park, very nice, amazing botanical garden. a downside: 1 filthy toilet on the whole park. Make an effort the town hall
Beautiful park well maintained and well located and well served by public transport from the prado roundabout take the 19 or 83 quiet park well attended with museum (because yes in the castle there is a museum) playground for children and there is also the botanical garden to discover in addition picnic area see can also see ragondins and feed the ducks
Very nice park, but the lack or absence?! of sanitary facilities makes the walk less festive.Even at the drink, I was told that there were none....what do employees do!!!??mystery. It would be a great project for the town hall and everyone who comes.
Visit of the park very spacious but disappointed we expected something else not too much maintenance and far too many ragondins some interesting trees to observe
A magnificent park with its path of polinisers and its Japanese garden (botany part). We were very impressed by the immensity of the place but also its peacefulness. The place is very well maintained. You have to register for the botanical garden. This visit is really worthwhile, especially since we are not far from the sea and can continue our walk along the coastline afterwards. I recommend.
Park accessible by metro from the Castellane. Musee to discover in the park, not far from the beaches of Prado. Very peaceful
Very nice park in the heart of Marseille where you can rest, walk, make rosalie or even observe the horses, ducks, seagulls.... Very nice with children one afternoon or even to picnic
Between town and seafront, at the gateway to the Calanques National Park, a haven of peace with families, sportspeople, rose garden, arboretum, castle...
Our Landscape Gardener, Maryse, takes us to discover an extraordinary garden. We head to the Bonneveine district, in the 8th arrondissement of Marseille, avenue du Prado, to discover and admire the famous Parc Borély. This park extends over an area of 18 hectares, inaugurated in 1864, it is labeled Remarkable Garden, of which 1.2 hectares is occupied by the Botanical Garden, from 1880, of the Bülher brothers, and endowed with 3500 plant species, which are presented in nine thematic spaces, in a sensory journey, with its tropical flora greenhouse, which, since 2004, has been enriched with a traditional Chinese garden, offered by the city of Shanghai. The municipality purchased, in 1856, the Château Borély, or Bastide, built from 1768 to 1778, by the architects, Marie-Joseph Peyre and Charles-Louis Clérisseau, listed as a Historic Monument since 1936, and renovated in 2013, which is highlighted by its gardens. The French garden retains the imprint of the engineer and architect Embry, who intervened on the site in 1770. Estate of 54 hectares, founded in 1767 by the extremely wealthy family, for 5 centuries, of Louis Borély, ennobled with the right of -de Borély-, merchant and shipowner, from the 17th century. From 1860 to 1880, the City called on Adolphe Alphand, the plantation engineer of the City of Paris, an illustrious collaborator of Baron Haussmann, under the Second Empire, to create a public park on the property, and a racecourse-golf course. 15 hectares, inaugurated in 1860, and which entrusted, in 1862, the execution of the project to its collaborators, Alphand and Barillet-Deschamps. The botanist, Edouard Marie Heckel, in 1880, reestablished the Botanical Garden, which had disappeared in 1856, during work, and moved in 1920 to the western extension of the park. The rose garden was created in 1923 by Léon-Paul Bonifay, honorary director of the plantation department and covers 5,000 m2, with 1,300 varieties of roses. In 1859, the landscaper, Alphée Adonis redesigned the park, adding elements of an English garden, with more natural curves and groves, which contrasted with the controlled style of the French garden. Since 2008, the estate has housed the Museum of Decorative Arts, Earthenware and Fashion, which exhibits Provencal culture of the 18th and 19th centuries, with objects of daily life or decorative objects, tapestries, furniture, and porcelain. The park is made up of, gardens, ponds, rectangular and circular, body of water, with ducks and swans, pier and its boats, for a tour of the lake, for a fee, and its pavilion, from 1863, wooden bridges, paths, clearings, picnic areas, bookstore, refreshment bar, café-restaurant, two play areas for children, and sculptures, including Man with Birds by Jean-Michel Folon (1934-2005), watercolorist, painter, engraver and Belgian sculptor, in the setting, of the rock garden waterfall, from 1995, and Ophélie, the fairy of the lake, by Lucy and Jorge Orta, from 2013. The educational trail and its signage allow you to discover the most remarkable trees, plants, birds of the lake, sculptures, monuments and buildings. Not to be missed are the monumental staircase and the Bassin de France, decorated with two griffins. Since 1962, the park has hosted the largest pétanque competition in the world, the Mondial la Marseillaise à Pétanque, with 13,000 participants. The park is also mentioned several times in the Glory of my father, by Marcel Pagnol, from 1957 and more recently, in 2004, it was the television series, Plus Belle la Vie, which took over the park.
Pleasant walk
An iconic location in Marseille 🫶
This is my daughters favorite park. Watching the animals near the pond is like watching a different reality TV show everyday.
I had just rewatched "My Father's Glory" And I felt like I was living in another era. It's magical.
Nice park. Great for cooling off during the summer days.
amazing !!!
A nice place to be, alone or not..
Very nice! Plus, the animals were super calm because I never saw any humans bothering them :)
A very pleasant and shady park.
