Berkana is a dedicated LGBTQ+ bookshop on Calle de Hortaleza in Chueca, open since 1993 and one of the longest-running queer bookshops in Spain. Shelves cover fiction, history, essays, trans and lesbian titles, comics and kids' books, mostly in Spanish with some English stock. It also works as a noticeboard for the neighbourhood, with flyers, magazines and book presentations. It opens daily, 10:30 to 21:00 on weekdays and shorter hours at weekends. It is a few minutes' walk from Plaza de Chueca, so it fits easily into an afternoon in the barrio. Staff can point you to Spanish queer authors if you ask.
