Claridge’s has been a favourite of mine since childhood, when my grandmother used to bring me here for tea. It is one of those rare places that carries memories with you, and so many years later, it still has the ability to delight the soul. There is a warmth and graciousness to Claridge’s that feels increasingly rare today. The service is not simply efficient; it is delivered with a sense of pride, discretion and genuine care that makes you feel you are somewhere special. On a slightly amusing note, we had been corresponding with Thomas prior to our arrival regarding the restaurants. When we arrived at the hotel, the concierge called for Thomas, and when he came down to meet us, we naturally assumed it was the same Thomas we had been corresponding with. There was clearly some confusion on his part about our conversation, but rather than question it or point out that something seemed amiss, he simply went along with it and graciously honoured what the original Thomas had proposed. It was only later, when we sat down for a drink, that the penny dropped: there are actually two Thomases at Claridge’s, and the concierge had summoned the Managing Director rather than the Thomas we had been dealing with! What impressed me most was the way Thomas handled the entire situation. He never once acknowledged the mix-up or made us feel that we had somehow ended up with the wrong person. He simply rolled with it, took care of us and handled everything with such natural warmth and professionalism that we only understood what had happened afterwards. And perhaps that is what I love most about Claridge’s. The service feels personal. There is a genuine sense that people care about the experience they are creating for their guests, and a level of grace and discretion that is increasingly difficult to find. Thomas was a wonderful example of that. It was a funny little misunderstanding, but he handled it beautifully—and left us with yet another memorable Claridge’s moment.

Even if you searched across the entire world I don’t think you’d find a better place for afternoon tea. Jairo was our server and his customer service was nothing short of impeccable - thank you for making our anniversary so magical ❤️
