Cebu is hot before you even reach the sauna: the jeepneys on Osmeña Boulevard throw off heat, the air round Fuente Osmeña smells of exhaust and grilled pork, and by mid-afternoon the whole city seems to be looking for shade. So it makes sense that the place men go to cool off is, oddly, a steam room. Cebu has no European-style gay bathhouse: we found no venue with a darkroom, a maze or cabins. What it does have is a small circle of men's spas, the kind Sandia advertises as a "manspace", with a dry sauna, a steam room, lockers and a massage menu, open late or around the clock, and quietly popular with gay men. The best known, Sandia on F. Ramos Street, and its sister spa Watermelon near the Capitol, are cheap, local and a little rough round the edges; Infinity, part of a national chain, is newer and more polished. All of them are massage businesses first. Here's what each one is really like, and the one rule that matters.
Legal in one line: sex between men is legal in the Philippines, but there's no same-sex marriage, civil union or national SOGIE anti-discrimination law. Cebu City's 2022 anti-discrimination ordinance (City Ordinance 2660) penalises discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, so you shouldn't be turned away for being gay. But paid sex is illegal, and the city also enforces an anti-indecency ordinance, which matters in a massage-spa scene (see the warning below).
What a Cebu "gay sauna" actually is
Forget the bathhouses of Berlin or Sydney. In Cebu you pay at the desk, get a locker key, a towel and slippers (sometimes shorts too), and use the wet area, a dry sauna and a steam room with showers, for as long as your ticket allows. Most men come for a sauna-and-massage package; ask at the desk, because prices are rarely posted online. The spas don't advertise themselves as gay, and you won't see a rainbow flag over the door. They promote themselves on X under tags such as #AlterCebu, and the crowd is overwhelmingly local. The wet area and the lounge are where people chat and look; the massage rooms are for massage.
About "extra service". Some therapists may hint at more than a massage. Paid sex is not a legal service in the Philippines. In June 2024 the NBI raided massage spas in Banilad, Mandaue, accused of offering "extra service", and charged the people behind them under the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act, a law that also penalises anyone who pays for sex with a trafficked person. Book a massage as a massage, agree the length and the price before you start, and politely decline anything else. Be wary, too, of X accounts offering "massage with extras" or home service: never pay in advance, and never invite a stranger from an ad back to your room.
The men's spas
Sandia Spa · 105 F. Ramos Street, Cebu City
The name is the giveaway: sandiya is the Cebuano word for watermelon, and Sandia and Watermelon belong together. On its X account (@AltSandia) the Ramos branch calls itself "the ultimate Manspace of Cebu", open 24 hours, seven days a week, with massage, a dry sauna, a steam room and lockers, and in 2024 it listed sister branches on Escario, in Colon and in Lapu-Lapu. Visitors who went after a 2022 renovation reported slippers, shorts, a big towel and a locker key included with entry, and a 2026-updated local spa round-up lists unlimited sauna use at around ₱300, with massages from about ₱400 to ₱600 and a sauna split into two areas of six or seven people each. It's simple, central (close to Fuente Osmeña) and very local; we found no reports of it closing, but check its X account for current branches and prices before you go.
Watermelon Health Spa and Sauna · 100 N. Escario Street, Capitol Site
Sandia's sister spa (Sandia's own posts tag it #watermelonspa), on N. Escario Street near the Provincial Capitol, also listed as open 24 hours. Local round-ups list unlimited sauna at around ₱300 and massages from about ₱300 to ₱600, and describe rooms that are very dark, with common areas lit mostly in red. Reviews are sharply split: on Google there are more one-star reviews than five-star ones. The good ones praise individual therapists, low prices and a calm mood; the bad ones complain about hygiene, the dark rooms and unprofessional behaviour from some staff. Go for a cheap sweat and a massage from a therapist someone has recommended, and keep your expectations for comfort low.
Infinity Spa Cebu · 4F The Greenery, Pope John Paul II Ave, Kasambagan
The Cebu branch of the Infinity Spa chain (infinityspa.ph), which also has branches in Quezon City, Makati, Davao and elsewhere in the country. Spa reviewers on X greeted its arrival as "bringing your ManCave to the Queen City of the South". The chain's menu covers massage, body scrubs and steam and sauna, with robes, sandals and a lounge, and the site lists the Cebu branch as open daily from 15:00 to 03:00, with last bookings at 01:00. It's a newer, cleaner and more corporate experience than the downtown spas, on the fourth floor of a mall building in Kasambagan, a short ride from Ayala Center and IT Park, so it's easy to combine with dinner in the business district. Prices aren't published; call 0966 968 7888 or check the chain's social media.
For a different kind of sweat: AYO AYO Wellness · 44 Emilio Osmeña St, Guadalupe
Not a gay sauna, and not trying to be one. Ayo Ayo started as a backpackers' inn and café in a renovated 1968 house, and added a sauna and a cold plunge pool in 2021, a rarity in Cebu. Local press describes separate locker rooms for men and women, a garden, a treehouse, a café serving home-cooked Japanese food, and yoga, Muay Thai and dance classes, all "open to everyone from all walks of life". Come here for a proper hot-and-cold session in a relaxed, mixed crowd, and book your sauna slot ahead.
Names you may see online: some international directories still list a "The Sauna" and "The Wet Spot" in Cebu, with no address. We found no trace of either operating in 2025–2026, so don't go looking. Sandia's Colon and Lapu-Lapu branches were advertised in 2024; we couldn't confirm that they're still running, so check with the Ramos branch first.
Want a real bathhouse? Fly to Manila
If what you want is a maze, cabins and a darkroom, the nearest options are in Metro Manila, a short flight from Mactan-Cebu: D'Mansion in Mandaluyong and Club Bath Philippines in Pasay, both with membership sold at the door. More in our Quezon City saunas guide.
Local colour: heat, hilot and a plate of puso
Massage is part of everyday life in the Philippines, not a luxury. Many Cebuanos grew up with hilot, the traditional Filipino massage, often given by a relative or a local healer, and a cheap evening massage after work is normal for men and women alike. That's why the city has dozens of small spas and why a sauna here nearly always comes with a massage menu. After your session, do as the locals do and eat: lechon, Cebu's famous roast pig, with puso, rice cooked in a little pouch of woven coconut leaves, or a late plate of Siomai sa Tisa, steamed dumplings in chilli-garlic sauce, from the stalls that stay open until dawn.
Practical tips
- Getting there: Sandia (F. Ramos, near Fuente Osmeña) and Watermelon (Escario, near the Capitol) are close to each other in the old centre; Infinity is in Kasambagan, a short ride from Ayala Center and IT Park; Ayo Ayo is in Guadalupe. Use Grab for cars. Motorbike-taxi apps such as Angkas and Move It are cheap and beat the traffic, but their permits in Cebu have changed several times since 2025, so use whichever one is working when you arrive.
- Timing: Sandia and Watermelon advertise 24-hour opening, so you can drop in after the bars; Infinity takes its last bookings at 01:00.
- Money: bring cash in small peso notes. Tipping your therapist is customary, and the amount is up to you.
- Valuables: leave passports and spare cards at the hotel, keep everything in your locker and keep the key on your wrist.
- Apps: Grindr and Blued are both widely used. Meet in a public place first and never send money to someone you've just met online.
- Pair it with a night out: the gay bars are spread out too. See our Cebu bars guide for Tshupa and Tagay in E-Zone.
- Bringing someone back: many Philippine hotels charge a "joiner fee" or refuse unregistered guests. Ask before booking, or see GayOut's gay-friendly hotels in Cebu.
- masahe: massage
- hilot: traditional Filipino massage
- pila?: how much?
- init kaayo!: so hot!
- hinay-hinay: gently, slowly (useful on the massage table)
- igo na: that's enough
- dili: no
- salamat: thank you
- sandiya: watermelon (now you know where Sandia got its name)
- bayot: a gay man. Within the queer community it's often used with affection; in straight company it can still be an insult, so let locals use it first.
Pride, community and health
Cebu Pride is in June. In 2026 the Cebu Pride Movement held the first Cebu Grand Pride Parade on 27 June, from the Provincial Capitol to Plaza Independencia, with more than 20,000 registered marchers. The Capitol is just round the corner from Watermelon. Watch the Cebu Pride Movement's pages for the 2027 dates.
LoveYourself Cebu, on N. Bacalso Avenue, offers free, confidential HIV testing, PrEP and counselling. If a condom breaks, PEP must start within 72 hours: go to a hospital emergency room. And if you have a new rash or sores, skip the steam room and see a doctor.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a gay bathhouse in Cebu?
Not in the European sense: we found no Cebu venue with a darkroom, maze and cabins. What Cebu has are men's spas with steam, a dry sauna, lockers and massage, such as Sandia, Watermelon and Infinity. The nearest full gay bathhouses are in Metro Manila.
Which Cebu spas are popular with gay men?
Sandia on F. Ramos Street, which promotes itself as a 24-hour 'manspace', its sister spa Watermelon on N. Escario Street, and Infinity Spa at The Greenery in Kasambagan. All three are massage spas first, so set your expectations accordingly.
Is 'extra service' at Cebu massage spas legal?
No. Paid sex is illegal in the Philippines, and the NBI has raided Cebu-area spas under the anti-trafficking law, which can also be used against customers. Agree the massage and price before you start and decline anything else.
How much does a men's spa in Cebu cost?
Local round-ups list unlimited sauna use at Sandia and Watermelon at around ₱300, with massages a few hundred pesos more. Prices change, so ask at the desk and bring cash in small notes.
Is AYO AYO Wellness a gay sauna?
No. It's a relaxed, mixed sauna café and hostel in Guadalupe with a cold plunge and separate locker rooms for men and women. It welcomes everyone, but it's a place to sweat and unwind, not to cruise.
