Courtyard by Marriott Paramaribo

One of the best places I have been, not because of the rooms, ambience or anything like that but because of staff. I reached Paramaribo via KLM airlines and lost my luggage. When I came to mariott and told the front desk about it one of receptionist Alyssia helped me a lot. She gave me all the daily needs required for me to be presentable for the next days meeting and helped me a lot in getting my luggage back. I really appreciate this, as most of the big hotels have same ambience, expensive food etc but it is the way you make them feel home is what counts. I will definitely go there again and suggest it for families as well. Thank you Alyssia and thank you mariott.

A terrible stay – absolutely never again We stayed for five days in August as a couple at Courtyard by Marriott Paramaribo. Unfortunately, this was one of the most disappointing hotel experiences we have ever had. We are actually accustomed to the service and hospitality one would expect from the Marriott group, but unfortunately, we saw none of that here. Our disappointment began right upon arrival. When we got out of the car with our suitcases, we clearly had trouble moving our luggage. The doorman looked at us but offered no help whatsoever. Instead, he just pointed in the direction of the luggage carts without saying a word. The way this happened came across to us as very arrogant and indifferent. This was certainly not a welcoming first impression. The reception also made a bad impression immediately. The reception is separated from the restaurant by only a curtain. It is small, dark, stuffy, and there was no air conditioning. Check-in was slow and inefficient. I asked several times if I could use the stairs for medical reasons. This was absolutely refused. During our stay, I asked about this several times, but there was absolutely no willingness to consider the matter or find a solution. For us, this was particularly disappointing. When we finally entered our room, the next unpleasant surprise awaited us. There were two of us, but the large sofa bed was made up completely as if extra guests were staying there. As a result, there was hardly any room for our luggage. Why make up a sofa bed when only two guests are staying in the room, when this comes at the expense of available space? But the biggest problem was the temperature in the room. The room was extremely hot and stuffy. There was no air conditioning on, and within a short time, sweat was literally running down our faces. We called the reception twice for help. It took about 30 minutes before someone came to check on us. Moreover, the air conditioning turned out to be set so that it barely got cold. As a guest, you could not properly adjust the temperature yourself. We also found the service regarding drinking water particularly disappointing. There were only two small bottles of water in the room. When we asked for extra water because we were thirsty, we were told that we had to pay for it. It later turned out that guests only receive a small bottle of water every three days. Water and ice were available in the hallway, but we were not clearly informed about this upon arrival or during our stay. This could have been communicated simply and hospitably. What stuck with us most was the distant and unfriendly attitude of several employees at the reception. We wondered several times what was going on, as we are absolutely not used to such a reception from hotels within the Marriott group. Our experience with the laundry was also disappointing. Stains We are not at all the type of guests who constantly ask for something or complain during a hotel stay. That is precisely why we found it so frustrating that we kept running into problems during these five days and subsequently experienced little willingness to actually help us. A hotel stay is supposed to make a vacation more pleasant. In our case, this stay actually ruined a large part of our vacation. Towards the end of our stay, we couldn't wait to leave. I have never been so relieved to leave a hotel. For us, this was absolutely not the level we expect from the Marriott group. The combination of the poor reception, the slow service, the stuffy room, the inadequate temperature control, the inflexible attitude of the staff, the problems with the luggage, the limited drinking water, and even the damaged/dirty laundry has ensured that we will never stay here again. For us: NEVER AGAIN Courtyard by Marriott Paramaribo.
