Playa Chihuahua

Playa Chihuahua is a naturist beach on Portezuelo bay, off Ruta 10 around km 115.5, a short drive west of Punta del Este and close to Laguna del Sauce airport. People have swum nude here since the 1960s, and Maldonado officially authorised it for naturism in 2012. The beach runs for about two kilometres and draws a mixed naturist crowd, with gay men traditionally gathering towards the dunes at one end. It is busiest from December to February and very quiet outside the summer season. You need a car or taxi to get there. Keep nudity to the designated stretch, and avoid going into the wooded areas behind the beach alone late in the day.
