Gay Bars & Clubs in Calgary
Calgary has three fixed queer bars, one bathhouse and a members-only men's club, plus a pop-up that has become one of the busiest queer nights in town. There's no gay village. The venues sit in the Beltline, on 17th Avenue SW and in Inglewood, and the city lost two of its best-known bars in 2024 and 2025. This page lists what is open as of October 2026 and what has gone.
Where the scene is
The Beltline, just south of downtown, has the dance club and the pop-up. 17th Avenue SW (the Red Mile) has Texas Lounge and Goliath's in one building. Inglewood, east across the Elbow River, has The Attic. The Beltline and 17th Avenue are walkable from each other; Inglewood is a short taxi or about 30 minutes on foot.
The bars
Twisted Element
1006 11 Ave SW, Beltline. Calgary's main gay dance club, on two floors. Google lists it open Thursday to Saturday, 8pm to 3am. Visit Calgary's February 2026 guide also lists Twisted's Got Talent, a drag talent night on Wednesdays, and Starchild, a Sunday drag brunch, so check the bar's Instagram for the week you're there. The crowd is mixed and mostly younger, with DJs later on. Google reviews are mixed (3.9 from about 520), and the complaints are mostly about the door and service. The bar's old site, twistedelement.ca, has been taken over by an unrelated content site; use twistedelement.club.
Texas Lounge
308B 17 Ave SW. A gay bar since 1987, according to Visit Calgary, and the closest thing the city has to a neighbourhood gay local: older regulars, cheap drinks and karaoke on Saturdays. Google lists it open daily from mid-afternoon (11am at weekends) until midnight, or 2am from Friday to Sunday. The entrance is in the parking lot behind Model Milk, not on the avenue, and Goliath's bathhouse is downstairs.
The Attic Bar & Stage
1413 9 Ave SE, Inglewood, upstairs above Vegan Street. A queer bar built around its stage. Carly's Angels, a drag show that has run every Saturday since 2000, is the anchor. Visit Calgary also lists drag-king weekends on long weekends and Leopard Lounge on the last Friday of the month, and a Sunday drag brunch started in October 2026. It's rated 4.8 on Google from about 470 reviews. Google's hours are early-evening only, so check the event listing for show times.
HOLE (pop-up)
A queer bar night every other Saturday from 10pm to 2am, held at Gulbar (636 10 Ave SW) since March 2026. Local collectives, including Cabaret Co and Generic Lesbian Party, put it on, and the first nights sold out on Showpass. Gulbar is a regular bar the rest of the time, so we list HOLE under events rather than as a venue.
Friendly bars with queer nights
Visit Calgary mentions drag at Dickens Pub (1000 9 Ave SW), including a monthly drag troupe, and at the Ship & Anchor on 17th Avenue. They're mainstream pubs that are welcoming on those nights, not gay bars.
Bathhouse and men's club
Goliath's Saunatel is downstairs from Texas Lounge and is Calgary's only gay bathhouse, listed by Google as open 24 hours. KNetic Men is a members-only cruise club for men that Google now places at 3208 8 Ave NE. Older guides still give a southeast address, which appears to be out of date.
Gone but still Googled
- The Backlot (209 10 Ave SW): the city's oldest gay bar (1996) closed in July 2024 when its building was demolished. It hadn't reopened by October 2026.
- Infinity Ultra Lounge (811 1 St SW): Yelp marked it closed in July 2025.
- Calgary Eagle: closed in 2012.
- Bar 522: a summer pop-up by DetourYYC that we found no sign of in 2025 or 2026. Its organisers now help run HOLE.
- The drinking age is 18 and ID is checked everywhere.
- Thursday to Saturday is when things happen. Midweek, only Texas Lounge is reliably open.
- Rideshare is the easy way between the Beltline and Inglewood late at night, and the only realistic way to KNetic.
- Pride Week (the week before Labour Day) is the busiest time, with extra parties at every venue.
