Parc de l'Espoir

Parc de l'Espoir is a small park at the corner of Sainte-Catherine Est and Panet, in the heart of Montreal's Village. It serves as the city's memorial to people lost to HIV and AIDS. It grew out of activist vigils held here in the early 1990s, and the community fought for formal recognition of the site. The redesigned park, reopened in the early 2020s, runs a red ribbon motif through the plaza and its seating. It's a quiet stop between the bars on Sainte-Catherine, and it's used for remembrance gatherings such as World AIDS Day on 1 December. It's open public space, free to visit.
