この場所について Thunderhead — Canada's 2SLGBTQI+ National Monument
Thunderhead is Canada's national 2SLGBTQI+ monument, being built on the Ottawa River at Wellington Street and the Portage Bridge, west of Parliament Hill. It came out of the LGBT Purge, the decades during which the federal government and military investigated and fired gay, lesbian and bisexual employees. Survivors won a class-action settlement in 2018, and part of it funds the monument.
The design, by Two-Spirit Elder Albert McLeod with Public City Architecture and artists Shawna Dempsey and Lorri Millan, is a thundercloud of mirrored tiles rising from a broken column in a landscaped park. Construction has run behind schedule, so check the official website for whether it's open before you visit.

An important monument recognizing our 2SLGBTQ+ community. We were visiting from Peterborough and glad we had the chance to see it.
