Montrose Point (Magic Hedge)

Montrose Point, known locally as the Magic Hedge, is a wooded bird sanctuary at the tip of the Montrose Harbor peninsula in Uptown. For decades it has been Chicago's best-known outdoor gay cruising ground, with activity along the hedgerows and dune paths, mostly in the warmer months. It is public Chicago Park District land and a serious birding site, so expect birdwatchers with binoculars during the day, especially in spring and autumn migration. Park curfew and public-decency rules apply, and the paths are unlit after dark. Stay discreet, keep to the paths, and respect posted closing hours.
