Bandera is a mainstream, gay-friendly restaurant from the Hillstone group at 535 North Michigan Avenue, one floor above the Magnificent Mile. It is not a gay venue. The menu is American comfort food built around the wood-fired rotisserie: chicken, ribs, cornbread and salads. Hillstone-style service is polished but relaxed. It rates 4.6 on Google from about 1,700 reviews. The room is up a flight of stairs, with windows looking over Michigan Avenue, and there is often live jazz in the evenings. It is busy at weekend dinner, so book or expect a wait. Northalsted, Chicago's gay district, is a 15-minute ride north on the Red Line or the 22 bus.

I miss this place, does anyone know if and when it will reopen? My husband and I make it a tradition to celebrate our wedding anniversary here every year (minus last year). Everything from the drinks, live music and the food were oh so good!
