この場所について Rainbow Honor Walk
The Rainbow Honor Walk is a series of bronze plaques set into the sidewalks of the Castro. Each one honours a deceased LGBTQ figure, including Oscar Wilde, Alan Turing, James Baldwin, Frida Kahlo, Audre Lorde and Sylvester. A volunteer-run nonprofit installed the first twenty plaques in 2014 and has added more in later phases.
Most of the plaques are on the 400 and 500 blocks of Castro Street, with others on 18th and 19th Streets and along Market Street. It's free and open around the clock, and you can see it in under an hour. The rainbowhonorwalk.org site has a plaque map and short biographies. Combine it with the GLBT Historical Society Museum on 18th Street and Harvey Milk Plaza at Castro and Market.

More cities should have (and maintain) places like this so that new generations know that things weren't always this simple.

Very cool neighborhood, pay attention to the embedded slabs in the sidewalk.
