I’ve been staying at the Tradies Quality Hotel in Dickson in Canberra for 3 nights every 6 weeks for the last 3.5 years, as I come to Canberra regularly to see family and friends. I feel like I’m being welcomed ‘home’ every time I go to the hotel, the reception staff know my name and my favourite room, and it seems nothing is too much trouble for them to make me comfortable and enjoy my stay. Whenever I’ve mentioned something in the room needs attention (TV needed tuning once) it is fixed very quickly, and if I need anything like extra blankets, they are very helpful and happy to assist. The rooms are always clean, tidy, have good AC, etc, and it’s a very quiet, comfortable place to stay. The closeness to the cafes, supermarkets, service station etc is very convenient, and the free parking under the hotel makes life very easy. The room pricing is excellent, and very competitive with other accommodation in Canberra. For a homely, value for money place to stay, I highly recommend the Tradies Quality Hotel in Dickson.
Whilst the accommodation is in a convenient location with club and light rail to City nearby -Unfortunately there are concerns with security and noise. All rooms on level 2 can be accessed by the public after hours, there is no lift key requirement and no locks or passes required to swiped for those to come off street. The screen sliding doors to the balcony were unlocked when checking in. Noise is a problem - constant slamming of doors in hallway, and since they have bolted TVs to the walls - you can hear your neighbours tv (and snoring) all night. One of the receptionist was quite robotic - did not show an ounce of "human", disinterested in where you've come from and reads off a script in a monotone, recorded voice. Suggest better quality and even cheaper hotels more towards the tram line to north of city. The only advantages this place has is location and underground parking.
Stayed here for a few nights and overall had a great experience. The hotel quality was impressive, and the staff were professional and helpful. One small area for improvement would be housekeeping attention to detail, as I noticed a towel hanging in the bathroom and wasn’t completely sure whether it was fresh.
Room was comfy enough to a 3 star hotel standard, great gaming venue. Just that staffs were not friendly when being asked multiple questions. Pricing is more towards a 4 star hotel. Will likely book again because the gaming room is great.
Great location close to the city centre and lots of places to eat/shop within walking distance, with plenty of safe onsite parking. The room I stayed in was well cleaned, neat and tidy, had no bad smells and was decently spacious. The beds were comfortable but the way they fold the sheets around the doona make it easy to come undone. Bathroom was good but provided soap was very thin and required a large amount to actually wash myself. Only major negative is having no kitchen sink so if you want to fill up the kettle you have to get water from the bathroom. They also run the extractor fan in the bathroom 24/7, I understand it's to prevent mould build up, but don't ask me to "save water" when you're wasting electricity on running the fans (which are loud enough to hear in bed).
