O tym miejscu Ho Jiak Melbourne - Junda's Playground (Enter via 1 Rainbow Alley)

Ho Jiak Melbourne is a Malaysian restaurant from chef Junda Khoo's Ho Jiak group, which started in Sydney. It is on the first floor in the CBD, and you enter via 1 Rainbow Alley. It is a mainstream, mid-priced restaurant with no LGBTQ+ angle (the alley's name is a coincidence), and it is listed as gay-friendly. Google rates it 4.7 from about 680 reviews. There are no hours on file, and popular CBD restaurants fill up at dinner, so book ahead. Melbourne's queer bars are mostly in Fitzroy, Collingwood, and along Commercial Road in Prahran.

Today, I’m compelled to write this review because we are genuinely shocked by the level of service we received from the manager Taylor. When we raised our concerns, there was no apology, empathy, or genuine attempt to resolve the issue. We were simply dismissed with, “We can’t do anything.” Rather than trying to make the situation right, Taylor abruptly told us, “Next time you’re in, order something else.” Unfortunately, there will not be a next time. If you are going to charge $170 for a dish, the least you can do is provide a proper and detailed description of what the dish includes, or at the very least clearly warn customers about what to expect before the dish is served. Customers should not have to find out after paying such a significant amount that the dish is not what they expected. We are particularly disappointed because there were so many simple ways this could have been handled. Even a sincere apology, an explanation, or a small gesture to acknowledge our concerns would have made a difference. Instead, our concerns were dismissed completely. As for the food, it was quite mediocre overall. The only dishes we genuinely enjoyed were the prawn toast and laksa bombs. The service was also very slow. The food can be subjective, but customer service should not be. We are shocked to have received this level of service from a manager. Unfortunately, Taylor’s attitude and the complete lack of effort to address our concerns completely ruined what should have been an enjoyable dining experience. **********. Reply to owners response: Thank you for taking the time to respond. However, I feel it is important to clarify a few points, We strongly disagree with the sequence of events and information provided in your response, as it does not accurately reflect our experience. The waitress who initially served us was lovely, and we have no criticism of her. However, she was not around when our mains arrived. I also do not recall anyone checking in with us during the mains to ask how we were finding the food. When our plates were cleared, approximately 70% of the mains had been left, yet the staff member who collected them did not ask us whether there was an issue with the food. Towards the end of the evening, everything felt very rushed, with staff busy setting up tables around us. We were not offered dessert; the bill was simply brought to the table for payment. It was at this point that Taylor intervened, and unfortunately, the way our concerns were handled made an already disappointing experience even worse. We have dined at many restaurants and have never experienced this kind of communication or felt as dismissed as we did that evening. We understand that concerns are ideally raised as early as possible, but it is unfair to suggest that the dishes were largely finished or that our concerns were simply not raised until payment. A significant amount of food was left, and no one asked us about it when the plates were being cleared. We appreciate that you have spoken with your team, but we would ask that our experience not be reframed in a way that suggests events occurred differently from how we experienced them. We have simply shared our genuine experience, and we stand by our original feedback. We hope the feedback is genuinely taken on board, particularly around communication and how customer concerns are handled in the future.
