First, the pros: A large, clean hotel with plenty of rooms, a generous breakfast, a quiet location, a spacious and well-maintained parking lot, easy to get to, hardly any tourists in June, and no screaming, annoying kids because their parents are busy on their cell phones instead of raising their little ones. Now for the cons: an extremely introverted person at the front desk. He couldn’t even point out the hotel on the map, let alone tell us which bus to take to the old town or where to get off. This person is the hotel’s first point of contact and just blew it. The waiters at breakfast were clearly still in training. Nothing wrong with that, but their English skills were subpar. They weren’t friendly or talkative at the tables—probably afraid of making mistakes. In a hotel where pilots and cabin crews stay, I’d expect a higher level of proficiency in a global language.
