It's obvious that it's a performance club. There's no inclusion, obviously made for neurotypicals: if you have ADHD or ASD, forget it. Their policy is to cause a stir and be exclusive so that everyone wants to join. You fall for anything.

For a work trip and a Thursday evening, it was simply an awesome evening.

Not worth it

You have to live it to understand

Fantastic club for techno lovers. There's a line and selection at the door, but the atmosphere is safe and organized. You can dance freely, and the DJ sets are fantastic.

During our stay in Berlin, a friend and I wanted to visit some trendy clubs, and Berghain was at the top of our list. Being over 50 and more of an "average Joe," my expectations of even getting in were correspondingly low. The bouncer's question about whether we were on the guest list was enough to disqualify him in my eyes; he didn't need to say anything more. I'd worked as a bouncer myself in the past and was familiar with this standard question from other bouncers when they definitely didn't want to let someone in. I asked anyway if it was a problem, to which the second bouncer looked at me through his sunglasses and said "NO." Based on that answer, we should have been allowed in, but I was already aware that he either hadn't understood the question or simply ignored it. The more professional response would have been, "Sorry, but you don't belong in our club," or "Too old," "Not gay enough," or whatever, but only truly good and professional bouncers would answer like that. The bouncers' reaction was clearly unprofessional, macho behavior. We then briefly observed the people going in and out and agreed that we really didn't belong in that club, so we spent the €28 entrance fee each at Café Holzmarktperle, which was definitely the better and more age-appropriate decision. It's definitely one of the most amazing venues in Berlin. Afterwards, we went to Club der Visionäre, where neither age nor any other criteria posed a problem, and thus had a perfect end to our Berlin stay.
