Hotel Grand Pacific

My family & I stayed here late June. I will start with the positive. You can’t beat the location, it is right across from the Ferry Terminal and close to downtown. The lobby, cafe and restaurant are very clean & stylish, room service food was alright nothing extravagant but enough to sustain and start your day. The staff are quite friendly and helpful. Now to the negative. We stayed in a Victoria Suite which was spacious BUT very outdated. Yes I’m aware that the furniture is “Victorian” style HOWEVER this furniture appeared to be OLD as far as purchased a long time ago. It has a lot of wear and tear and just give the OLD not the new Victorian. The comforter is just a comforter insert with a flat sheet over it. I work in interior design and this room hasn’t been updated in many years. The bed, or should I say plywood comfort bed! My family and I have firm beds at home BUT this was beyond firm. The floor would’ve been more comfortable. I am recovering from back surgery and just sleeping on this bed has set be back weeks as well as ruining our stay in Victoria because we were all so sore & tired from the lack of sleep. We were told they had a mattress topper so we had one delivered and that was no help at all. We’ve travelled to over 16 countries and this by far was the most outdated and uncomfortable room and bed we’ve ever stayed in. The staff did tell me that the rooms are overdue to be renovated and said that the firmness of the beds was a frequent complaint, they also told me that the hotel is under new management this year. I hope the new management addresses the problem areas because you’re going to lose business and referrals if you don’t. We visit Victoria every year but we won’t stay here again! If you don’t mind outdated (not meaning the Victorian style itself) rooms and EXTRA firm beds in a fantastic location this is for you. If you don’t I don’t recommend this hotel for you. My response to the manager’s response, this was the only room available as we traveled with our dog. So I was given no other choice. Just because we travel with a dog this shouldn’t mean your rooms should be outdated, like I said there is a difference between outdated (old) than been styled Victorian with updated Victorian inspired decor. I honestly could’ve put up with the outdated decor if the bed was sleep-able. When we returned home I had to have a procedure on my back due to how hard the bed was.

We spent 2 nights at this hotel for a wedding. We paid quite a substantial amount for 2 nights and the hotel didn’t live up to the standard. Checking was at 3pm, we got a room only at 4:20pm. Nailed were sticking out of the carpet in front of the washroom, we hade to put some towels on top of it so we don’t get injured. The cabinets are so outdated even the towel hanger fell after we hung just one towel, and cabinets would barely open. The rooms were clean and the staffs are nice. Still wouldn’t recommend for that amount of money per night.

Great stay. Very quiet room, well maintained and clean. Fantastic location, very friendly staff.

Extremely bad experience. Parking was impossible because of how low the ceiling was in the parking lot. Even with a cleared vehicle was barely possible to park, the rooms are also extremely bad, the lights in the room didn’t work properly, either one was flickering or just not working at all. And for the price you would think that there would atleast be a TV but some rooms had a tv and others didn’t. The building is also extremely outdated and hard to navigate although it may seem nice from the outside. You are made to pay for parking in advance but parking isn’t even guaranteed as the parkade is so small. Do not recommend this hotel

James Bay area is a great location, we always stay in this area on our frequent trips to Victoria. We didnt feel we had value for money with our visit to Grand Pacific Hotel. Room had an unpleasant smell, stale slight smoke even though its a non smoking room. Cleaner said she would use a spray to mask the stale smell. There was a nasty brown smear on the curtain and a crack on the wall with a separation of the wallpaper. It felt shabby, I didn't feel the carpets were clean etc. I really felt dissapointed with the room. The view was nice, the pool/fitness were good overall but they did feel like they were ready for some TLC and one of our visits the hot tub was drained and not in use which was also not ideal. We ended up paying to visit the fairmont pool and fitness one of our 4 days and that was nice.
