You come and stay here for the boutique ambiance and location. Its historical decor is maintained. On Ocean Blvd and great location to site see Carmel. No elevators. Slight musty smell but very clean and comfortable. Worth it

There's no elevator. We were hauled up to the third floor. With heavy suitcases, that was a real struggle. The lobby is nice, but there's nothing behind it. We couldn't order drinks in the evening. The restaurant attached to the hotel can only be visited with a reservation. That makes absolutely no sense to me. As a hotel guest, you should always be able to get a table, even if you just want an Aperol Spritz. Good: the hotel has parking for guests. Location: very good

This place does not look like much from the outside, but boy is it fancy on the inside! It was the fanciest hotel in town 100 years ago, and they kept it exactly the way it was 100 years ago. The furniture is all authentic and antique, and the rooms are in that period decor. I was there in early August and temperature in Carmel was 60° F. I know someone else complained about not having a/c, but he really don't need it along the coast. For less than $300 a night, it's a bargain! If you want to step back into time 100 years, spend the night at this place. It is also attached to Il Fornaio restaurant which makes it really convenient to have a great Italian meal.

I had an unfortunate experience outside The Pine Inn while trying to park on the street nearby with my daughter in the vehicle. Because I have bikes attached to the back of my van, I am extra cautious when backing up in tight areas. I was slightly over a line near what I later understood to be a loading zone, and an employee came outside and immediately spoke to me in a rude and impatient manner, telling me to move. I politely asked if he could help guide me while backing up safely, especially given the bikes obstructing part of my view. His response was, “You have mirrors,” and he refused to assist. As a mother traveling with my young daughter, safety was my priority. I repeatedly got in and out of the vehicle to check clearance myself because I did not want to risk hitting another car, cyclist, or pedestrian. Thankfully, another female employee came outside after being radioed and kindly helped guide me safely while backing up. I appreciated her willingness to help. However, the original employee then laughed afterward, which made the situation feel even more disrespectful and unnecessary. Honestly, if this is how he speaks to women — especially mothers traveling with children who are simply trying to park safely — I would hate to be one of the women in his personal life. The complete lack of patience, courtesy, and basic decency over something as minor as a tire touching a line was shocking. And judging by the amount of time he appeared focused on his phone instead of helping guests, I’m sure management would be thrilled to know how customer interactions are being handled. Carmel is already a stressful place to navigate and park, especially for visitors without tiny luxury vehicles. A little patience, professionalism, and basic human kindness would have gone a long way.
