Great spot to stay near downtown. A short drive to pebble beach. The picnic basket breakfast was great. Loved the purified water center. Older rooms but super clean and stocked well. Love the mini kitchen!
A nice place for a pretty good price by Carmel standards. Its location along Junipero St just northeast of downtown puts it in a quiet section that also makes it an easy walk to the best parts of downtown. That location also means that if you have to find street parking you might be better off than other sections of town. However the central part of hotel property is all roomy parking that looks like it can mostly accommodate all the rooms, which is a huge win for Carmel where some lodging has no on site parking or else the parking is incredibly cramped and hard to navigate. The staff have all been wonderful. We were here midweek for our anniversary and since the hotel wasn’t full the manager upgraded our room to a deluxe one with a great view for free. The room is slightly dated (which again is a common thing you see in Carmel) but nicely appointed and comfortable, with a decent sized balcony. The included continental breakfast was a bit underwhelming, but that just gave us the motivation to try some of the great breakfast options nearby.
We booked this hotel over Memorial Day weekend and paid approximately $1,200 for an upgraded Ocean View Suite. We paid in full at check-in before seeing the room. Upon entering, the room was, at best, underwhelming. It felt dated, and the “ocean view” was extremely limited, which felt misleading given the premium price we paid specifically for that feature. While plugging in a charger beside the bed, I noticed a strong mold or mildew smell coming from that side of the room. A housekeeper came in, but rather than addressing the concern, she insisted the room was clean and implied I was imagining the smell before quickly leaving. I then went to the front desk to express my concerns about the condition of the room. I was told that because the room had supposedly been approved by the head housekeeper and manager prior to our stay, there was nothing they could do — no room change, partial refund, or accommodation of any kind. The only solution offered was to place a machine in the room for two hours while we were away that would spray chemicals throughout the space, which was not an enticing solution. When I asked to speak with the manager, I was told they were conveniently in Seattle for the weekend — which made me question how the room had been personally approved beforehand. Ultimately, we left the hotel within 20 minutes and received no refund. While I was disappointed by the condition of the room itself, I was even more disappointed by the customer service and lack of concern shown toward our experience. It reached a point where leaving and paying additional money for another hotel felt like the better option. After reading additional reviews, it appears other guests have had similar experiences. Based on our stay, I would recommend reading those reviews carefully and considering other options.
Perfect bed and breakfast
