Heights House Hotel, Ascend Hotel Collection

My apartment in midtown flooded and I needed a place to stay while I figured out new housing arrangements. I stayed here for 5 nights. I went to another hotel for the 6th night and it was much inferior to Heights House. Arné (I'm probably mispelling her name) was especially (EXTREMELY) kind and patient with my anxious, elderly mother on the phone. She should be promoted to a management position ASAP before y'all lose her. Phenomenal customer service on her end. Workers like her are conduits to repeat reservations. With that said, all of the staff were kind. This is not a 5 star hotel, but the people are very kind and hardworking. They will make you feel at home while you are here. They've also got the best suggestions as to local restaurants and food trucks. This hotel especially lends itself to large gatherings. If you need a spot to stay for a large-ish organization (youth sports team or larger) I'd highly recommend this place. They seem to be much more willing to accomodate and cater to larger groups than a typical chain hotel would be. I could not have asked for a better place to rest my head during a chaotic time in my life. I highly recommend staying here.

Very friendly staff. I didn’t use the room long only to sleep at night and shower, it was comfortable. The outdoor space was great for our dance team to practice and they were very accommodating to let us use it however we needed!

Wonderful service and helpful staff. The pool was super clean and had plenty of seating/ lounging. We came here for WBC and the Uber ride was quick and had lower rates to downtown.

This place is amazing. We stayed there last weekend for the NCA championship. There’s really nothing more to say. The staff was amazing, they made us feel like we were part of their family. They told us the girls were free to run around and have fun in the tabled area next to the pool. They were constantly check up on us to see if we needed anything at all. The food was amazing as were the drinks. Jean and the rest of the staff did a great job of making us all feel at home. Free breakfast in the mornings and even a grab and go lunch for our cheerleaders cause they knew how busy these kids and their parents were going to be. Up until the last night there since we were tired from the events of that day Jean had us check out late since she knew our flight back home wasn’t leaving until 430pm. At no cost to us. I’m definitely going to continue to book here every time I come to Houston. And they had a cool polaroid toilet paper holder in the bathroom lol. Loved it.

Jean, Michael and the Heights House Hotel staff were so great and accommodating for mine and my family’s stay during a national competition. The hotel looks to be an old motel, that was nicely updated with featured art-walls and a more modern approach, like phone-free rooms and a dedicated number to text or call directly from your cell phone instead. Due to an unfortunate water leak, we were able to stay in two rooms (both double queen) and found that some rooms have either more space or more functionality depending on whether there was a desk/dresser under the tv or not. Our first room did not have a small fridge but the second one did. I didn’t mind not having a microwave in the room, as there was one on the first floor near the vending machines if needed. I much preferred the additional space and less clutter; especially with two young kids. My only negative would be the property is listed as non smoking and while they do have signage posted all over the court yard and at the front desk, I found a large ashtray in the courtyard near a covered stage/picnic area. I don’t know if it was used by staff or guests but it seemed to go against their own posted policy. I also found few cigarettes butts near the pool area on the ground. My positive experience 100% made up for the smoking issue and if I get to visit Houston again, I will absolutely have Heights House on my list of room options.

Hotel wanted more money. am a single mother, and at the last minute my job approved time off so I could attend my son’s competition. I made my reservation two weeks in advance, and the hotel confirmed my stay without any issues. My son was staying with another athlete at an approved competition hotel that had to be booked through a required link, so I needed to stay nearby. The day before the competition, the hotel manager called me and said they would no longer honor my reservation and canceled it. With less than 24 hours’ notice, I was left scrambling. By that point, the only available hotels were more than double the price. Because of this cancellation, I was unable to attend my son’s competition — something that meant a great deal to me, as I am not able to attend most of his events due to work. This situation could have been avoided with proper management and planning. Confirming reservations and then canceling them at the last minute is unacceptable and extremely unprofessional. I hope the hotel improves its management practices so no other family has to go through this.

Heights House Hotel is such a standout in Houston. The retro aesthetic is everything — it feels like stepping into a perfectly curated mid-century dream with warm woods, vintage textures, moody lighting, and that effortless Palm Springs feel. It’s nostalgic without feeling dated, stylish without trying too hard. Every detail contributes to the vibe. But what truly made the stay unforgettable was the staff. Every single person we encountered was warm, welcoming, and genuinely kind. From check-in to check-out, they made us feel valued and taken care of. You can tell they love what they do and take pride in creating a memorable experience. Their friendliness elevated the entire stay — it wasn’t just beautiful, it felt personal. The energy around the property — especially near the pool and courtyard — is relaxed, intimate, and cool. Between the ambiance and the amazing team, the entire experience felt curated and special. Heights House isn’t just about design (though it’s stunning) — it’s about atmosphere, hospitality, and that feeling that you’re somewhere truly unique. The staff absolutely made the vibes worth it. We will 100% be back.

My friend and I were coming to Houston for a concert at a venue less than 2 miles away. The venue listed this hotel in the accommodations section of their site, and the pictures make it look so charming and cute. We were excited to stay there. When we arrived, we were given a standard room rather than the suite we booked. It had stains on the bedding. When we were moved, we were on the back side of the hotel that faced boarded up homes. While we were out my friend got a migraine and she came back. We were unnervingly cat called (we are from Baltimore- cat calls are whatever to us but this was different in a way that really unsettled us). Once we got into the room, we realized the deadbolt didn’t work and the door didn’t even close flush with the door frame. It bowed inward. It was at this point we realized this property also acts as a hostel (different website- Google bposhtels Houston). We decided to leave and go to a different hotel. They were not willing to refund us so we will probably have to dispute the charge with the credit card company. The man at the front desk was very friendly and it seemed he cared and wanted things to be good- but they just were not. This property has a lot of work to do.

I hate leaving a bad review bc it looks like this place is really trying… but I feel they missed the mark. I booked it online bc it had a cute retro vibe… but it seems their website has some misleading info… Their site shows “Our ground floor features a stylish restaurant and bar.” I didn’t see a restaurant here. Also there’s no menu to be found. There is seating and tables outside and in the lobby though so maybe that was it? Their “bar” also has no liquor license so they don’t sell cocktails. Their site also shows “All our comfortable rooms feature luxury-grade mattresses…” Our king bed had an old, worn out mattress with sunken in spots, in dire need of replacement. One sheet, one thin comforter, no extra blankets. Our room also smelled musty and felt humid. There’s no microwave and fridge . It looks like you have to pay more for a suite to get those, which I think should be standard equipment in an average hotel room. The courtyard view was nice but it faces the major highway so there’s road noise. If you’re a light sleeper, bring something to drown out noise because you can hear everyone walking by your door and above you if you’re on a lower floor. I will say that the pool area and outdoor seating was very nice and clean. The staff were also really nice. I hope they continue to improve because there is potential there.❤️
