The Friendly Bar is a queer-anchored corner dive at Chartres and Marigny streets in the Faubourg Marigny. It has a pool table, a jukebox and some of the cheapest drinks in this part of New Orleans, and the crowd is mixed and chatty; solo travellers usually find someone to talk to. There's no stage or show, just a neighbourhood bar. It works as a first or last stop on a Marigny night, with the other gay bars nearby and the Frenchmen Street music clubs a few blocks away. This is a great neighborhood bar in the Marigny neighborhood, a few short blocks from the French Quarter. It really is a friendly bar—the bartenders are friendly, the people are friendly, the bar is accurately named! Several nights a week they have food vendors outside. Call ahead to see if they have food on the night(s) you want to go. If not, there are several great places to eat on nearby Frenchman Ave. So get out of the French Quarter for cheap drinks and good conversations!
