The Carolina Inn, a Destination by Hyatt Hotel

I stayed two nights 5/16-5/18/26 in a king premium room. They did recognize our Hyatt globalist stays and upgrade from a queen. Thank goodness since this king is 350 sq feet and the standard queen is 200. I looked at one and that was tiny. We were in room 210 and had nice view and two windows. There was a wedding Saturday night but it didn't distrub us at all. Sunday brunch was great options and we ate on the porch. The cod, beef and omelets were all very good. Grits and bread pudding tasted good but were not hot. Parking is $25 overnight and they offer self or valet same price just with valet you wait and of course you should tip. Second day we had breakfast to go from the Pittsboro provisions. The pastries were fresh and tasted very good. The pantry on the 3rd floor is small and I would not suggest paying $30 if your status or rate doesn't include it. Tiny room with sodas, chips coffee and some snacks. We only used it once and I would have never paid for it. Great location to walk to food and UNC and nice neighborhood. Enjoyed the stay! Sorry forgot pics of my room. Bathroom is tiny

I have been there only a few times for family get togethers. Excellent atmosphere and menus. Did not visit the rooms. I am sure they would not disappoint.

Upon arrival, there was a brief delay at the front desk while a room upgrade was being arranged, and the computer system added some extra processing time. To their credit, the team handled the situation graciously and offered a complimentary ice cream voucher for three scoops — a sweet gesture that more than softened the wait. The upgrade itself was well worth it: a premium two-queen room positioned in the corner at the end of the hallway on the top (third) floor. Quiet, private, and perfectly aligned with the room preferences noted during booking — exactly the kind of attentiveness that makes a stay feel curated rather than routine. Rooms were thoughtfully appointed with timeless décor. The welcome upon entering the room was particularly memorable: Raven, the Assistant Director of Operations, had arranged a personal gift of Chapel Hill Toffee alongside a personalized card. It was a warm, locally grounded touch that immediately made the space feel like more than just a hotel room. As a Hyatt Globalist, breakfast at the on-property restaurant, Crossroads Chapel Hill, was included as part of the elite benefit — and it delivered every morning. The restaurant staff radiated a genuine Southern warmth that made each meal feel unhurried and personal. The Sunday buffet brunch was a highlight of the entire stay: a lavish spread anchored by the hotel's signature bread pudding, which is as good as the reputation suggests. Don't miss it. Even if you come again, you may experience a new version as 5 different types are made from a steady rotation of breads from the in-house bakery. Also notable as a Globalist benefit was access to the Magnolia Pantry, a complimentary hospitality amenity stocked with chips, pastries, and beverages — a lovely, low-key retreat that the team has curated with care. The Magnolia Pantry can also be accessed with eligible room rates. Parking is complimentary for Globalists on free night award stays. The parking lot had ample parking as well as an option for valet. Guests can also enjoy amenities including a 24-hour gym and the hotel's central campus location makes it easy to explore UNC @ Chapel Hill on foot. This stay was a near-perfect expression of Southern hospitality elevated to a luxury standard. This 4.5 star review gets rounded down due to the review rating structure by Google Maps. Nevertheless, the Carolina Inn earns its reputation, and then some.

Was there for Mother's Day brunch. Great food and service

Went for wedding event. Great food. Didn't check out the rooms but the vibes are classic. They had an event on the lawn with some nice music. Very cool.

Classic hotel in middle of Carolina campus...been there once before and infinitely better room this tkme...I assume they revamped it and it was well done

We stayed here on two different occasions. The regular queen room is tiny. The king room is slightly bigger but still small by today’s standard for a hotel like this. The staffs were nice and personable. If you don’t need to stay near UNC, there might be other options out there.
