Camp

Young crowd. Lots of “allies”. Depressing what passes for a gay bar these days. Maybe they are still working on it? The room is half-baked at best; cheaply done and uncomfortable. Loud, Bad lighting (why so bright?) uncomfortable seating arrangements. Bad music. Giant wall of screens. I go out and spend $9 a drink to interact with hot guys not screens. We desperately need more masculine gay bars and I had high hopes based on the ownership press but this one ain’t it. Just serving up the same old gay club slop to aging twinks.

The bartender has a terrible attitude behind the bar. Maybe it's because I'm Latino. It's my first time at this nice place, and I was surprised to find that this young man seems to be showing some racism towards Latinos.

This post isn't really about Camp. I always appreciate the effort and risk people take to start a bar, especially a gay bar. The inside was very nice. The bartenders were great. I was just disappointed that it's simply another ordinary gay bar. No different than Scandals or CC's, etc. I gave them 5 stars because I didn't want to bring down their average, fully knowing that the problem might just be me. I'm just sick of gay bars with disco balls, chandeliers, HORRIBLE music and stereotypical nonsense playing on the screens. Most gay people I know don't go to gay bars anymore... because of this. I know this sounds crazy, but not all gay people like this HORRIBLE gay music... or want to watch scenes from some sort of woman's fashion show on TV. Some of us like sports, hard rock music (for lack of a better term) and don't need to see one more second of drag. Gay people are always supposed to have imagination, yet every new gay bar just mirrors the last one. Ironically, they all end up going out of business, so it’s weird to copy them. Try something new. Treat gay people like normal people instead of going with the stereotypes. Bar owners might be surprised how many new customers they may get. Going back to my pet peeve of terrible music at gay bars... As a rule of thumb, if you wouldn’t listen to this music driving in your car or while hanging out at home, don’t play it at your bar. OR, put in a TouchTunes. You’ll see what people actually want to hear.

The work it must have taken to get Camp up and running so fast must have about killed all involved- but man was it worth it It’s funny I have been going to that spot for, well , decades and before it was Camp I had no clue who even owned it. Now, you go in there, owners are picking up glasses, talking to people having a great time- what a huge difference the vibe is good

Camp Bar is what you get when community comes together to celebrate. I had the pleasure of volunteering for some pre-opening clean up prep and it felt wonderful being a part of revitalizing the space for us, by us. Opening weekend during Pride filled me with so many feelings, I almost teared up! Looking forward to many more days and Prides there. Cheers!

This place checks every box. Business goals included creating a safe, welcoming, cost effective and fun place for all members of the greater community. They did it in an a market desperately needing a space for gathering and joy! Congratulations to the owners! Congratulations to the community! Drinks were exactly what I expected… great pours for the price! Staff was nothing but friendly with smiles in an overwhelming, packed weekend environment. Smart decision to have a separate bar set up for quick distribution of canned beverages! Unique and excellent choice to serve gourmet hotdogs! Love it.
