Funky Town is the longest-running and most prominent gay venue in Chengdu — a club with a dance floor, multiple bar areas and a programming calendar of themed nights, drag shows and DJ sets. The venue has operated consistently for many years and is widely cited by Chengdu's LGBTQ+ community as the scene's anchor. The crowd is openly gay in a way that distinguishes Chengdu from Beijing and Shanghai: less discreet, more visibly out, reflecting the city's broader social tolerance. Weekend nights are well-attended; drag shows are a regular feature. The club is in the Wuhou university district — an area with a young, educated crowd that produces an unusually tolerant social environment by Chinese standards.
