The hotel staff is amazing. They have a coffee shop and a photo booth that is really great. The rooms are also really nice and clean but the location is not great. There are a lot of homeless people around. While it's central, I think the location is the downside of this hotel. If you're staying here, you must go to the rooftop and see the sunset. It's amazing

Do not get the small rooms. First time I stayed here I used a reward from my work. The room seemed small but it was pretty nice. This weekend I got a room online and I got a small room thinking it was the same thing as I got last time. Boy was I wrong. The small room is so small I do not recommend! I will not be coming back here. The small room smelled musty and is so small it's depressing. Also the small rooms have no view. Just a brick wall from the neighboring building. The lobby is nice and the service was decent but I'm not happy with the room at all. Any room you get here will be small and cramped even the large ones. Not worth the price.

Really enjoyed my stay here, there's a heap of bad reviews due to the area being 'rough' but solo travelling as a female I didn't find this an issue at all. Room was clean, bed was comfy and the staff were lovely. Bar staff on the rooftop were more than helpful for recommendations, view is awesome. Heaps to do around, short walk from heaps of shops and surrounding area with food trucks was great - never felt in any danger walking around by myself either. It seems super unfair this hotel gets bad reviews due to the area.

June 2026- The positive reviews show bougie bias. Basically, people think that because they spent a lot of money staying here that it's somehow more exceptional than a regular mainstream hotel. The Hoxton is in a really downtrodden area of Portland. People sleeping on the sidewalks and doing drugs on the street all around the hotel. It's in a very seedy area, bring your white noise machine to drown out the street noise and yelling. Second, there's not a lot of extras that you get for this expensive room. Your welcome drink is a choice between a White Claw and a Capri Sun pouch. Seriously. Some of the people in our party weren't offered a welcome drink at all, so I guess it depends on how expensive your room is, if you get that offer. There is no coffee bar in the lobby that is complimentary. There is a coffee shop in the lobby where you can pay for your coffee or you can make it yourself in your room. I had a larger room, and I don't know if all the rooms have the option to make coffee in their room. My sister switched rooms because her room was so small the bed was up against the wall in a corner and she didn't want to have to crawl over the bed to get in with her partner. Unfortunately my reservation where I ask for a room with a view was not taken seriously by Melo, whom I booked with on the phone, and the view that I originally got was of all the air conditioners on the roof of the hotel.(508?) See photos. I specifically requested the room that I did and told Melo that I would pay any price because I wanted to watch the parade from the window. I had to reject the first room and pay an upgrade fee. Shout out to Ed and the front desk staff for being awesome. In the original room they stuck me in, the two chairs in the room were so close to the end of the bed you could hardly walk without turning sideways like you're trying to get past somebody at a movie theater. I ended up with the room with a view on the corner of the building that you see in the online pictures of the hotel that has two big windows (709). It's definitely worse for wear than in the pictures. The carpet edges are completely shredded and we're leaving fuzzy debris all over my husband's black socks. The rug edges are so shredded you can see the adhesive from the carpet tape that they use to try to hold it down. It looks extremely shabby. See photos Boutique hotels have a habit of trying to make things look cool without being functional or functioning poorly. I'm making this point because they have these bed frames that stick out way beyond the mattress. My husband has a bruised abrasion on his shin now from running into this small tree stump and I kept bumping my toes or fully tripping over the end of the bed during our two nights stay there. Everyone in hospitality knows that the end of the mattress creates a visual end of the bed, anything that sticks out beyond the mattress is a tripping/injury hazard, nobody cares how cool you're bed frame looks if they've broken their pinky toe or have a big bruise on their shin. You can always have a cool headboard but don't have a bed frame that takes up too much space when space is already at a premium when you have smaller than usual rooms. The mattress was comfortable. The bathroom has a bunch of grab bars for getting in and out of the shower and up and down from the toilet but no towel bars, only hooks. So if you want your towel to dry without it being clumped together on a hook you have to hang it basically still inside the shower on one of the safety bars or right next to the toilet. That's weird. Another thing bougie boutique hotels try to do is have pedestal sinks without any kind of countertops. If you're having women stay at your hotel you need a countertop. We have makeup and moisturizers and hair products all sorts of things that we need countertops for. Nice staff, overrated hotel.
