Wanted to try some authentic local food during our day in Cologne and some research took us to Max Stark - about 15 minutes walk away from Köln Hbf. We arrived just after midday and were lucky to get a table as we didn't have a reservation. We went for a local beer each and the local dish of Saurbraten - a meat stew with raisins, almonds and potato dumplings. The stew was amazing with a rich sauce which really benefited from the sweetness. The meat was very lean and the dumplings were fantastic - light and not stodgy at all. With another beer and a wine the bill was just over €50 and very well worth it. The food, service and atmosphere were all top notch. Definitely worth the walk for the visit.

The place was a hidden jam. Full of local people we felt as we have discovered a pure diamond. The food was delicious, the atmosphere and the stuff are friendly. The beer… ohhh the 🍻… highly recommended :)

Found this after googling a German restaurant near me . Was a 5 minute walk. We arrived at 12.30pm and it was packed, they did have a small round table which they offered us as most people had booked. We ordered the Jägerschnitzel each , a glass of wine and a beer. The staff very friendly , food was delicious, the customers were mainly locals which is always a good sign. Would definitely return, but book next time, so we don't miss out.

Great service and atmosphere. I tried the Rheinischer Sauerbraten — it was nicely complemented by the apple compote, though not really to my personal taste. I loved the Himmel un Ääd, which came with a generous serving of mashed apples and potatoes. Reservations are highly recommended.

Great food! Loved the schnitzel and salmon! Best not to go with the sausage. Was rather dry and sis not have enough fat. The location is a little off the beaten track but definitely worth your time.
