Hotel Oleana

Centrally located hotel, renovated with a pleasant artistic flair. The rooms are not very large but well-appointed and equipped with a refrigerator, hot drinks, TV, and hairdryer. Breakfast offers a wide selection of savory and sweet items, including local products. Friendly staff. Recommended.

We ended up at this hotel somewhat by chance because our original hotel was closed due to a strike! We weren't disappointed; the room was decent (though not very bright), the receptionist was very pleasant, and the breakfast was good. The hotel is right in the center, near the port and shops. However, there's no restaurant, only a bar, and no parking, but we did get a 50% discount at a nearby underground parking garage.

In early May 2026 we were able to book 4 nights (2 rooms for 4 people) just a few days before our arrival (because the Radisson Blu closed due to the strike but they were very poor with their communication to us about the subsequent cancellation of our reservations there). The Oleana was a great surprise and perfect alternative. The rooms are clean and we had great views. The location is great and central to the city (the Blu is right in the Bryggen so obviously closer to that popular site, but there is a lot more to see and do in Bergen). The bathrooms are a little small but not unusually so. The breakfast buffet was included and well-rounded. There were a few hiccups (a cleaner accidentally came into our room without warning; and the adjoining room door wasn’t locked so our neighbor started coming in, prompting a quick shout from us), but the staff handled them quickly for us (and they were likely due to the smaller staff from the strike). We felt some loyalty to the Blu because we’ve stayed there three times before, but we were very pleased with our stay at the Oleana and will definitely consider them over the Blu in the future.

Due to the hotel and restaurant strike at the time, I had to rebook at short notice and thus ended up at this hotel. Despite the limitations, I experienced excellent service. The hotel is located in the heart of Bergen and is a small, charming boutique hotel with a rather quirky layout. The room is very small but optimally utilized and furnished, though a bit of a challenge for two people. Bryggen, Fisketorget, and the Fløibanen funicular are all within easy walking distance. Parking garages are nearby, but the cobblestones and construction sites made transporting luggage quite a challenge. Parking in front of the hotel was not possible. I prefer larger hotels with better infrastructure (not possible in Bergen due to the strike). But if you're looking for a small, stylish hotel in a central location, this is the perfect place.

There was a lamp next to the bed that couldn't be turned off. Extremely annoying. Missing tabasco for breakfast. Otherwise an ok hotel.
