Restaurant O'Higgins

A wonderful place for lunch, breakfast, or afternoon tea. Everything is well-prepared, delicious, and fresh (you can tell nothing is frozen or reheated). The service is excellent, both from the waiters and the hostess (Angy has usually been there the times I've been). It has a great atmosphere, spacious tables, and a large, airy space. Wait times are normal, depending on what you order. I absolutely recommend it. They also offer a takeaway service (not delivery, but you can pick up your order). I usually go for lunch, afternoon tea, and sometimes breakfast.

A very traditional Valparaíso establishment renowned for its pork dishes. Traditional decor with several private rooms for groups. Warm and attentive service. However, the food is merely adequate. We ordered the O'Higgins platter: a selection of grilled cuts with rice and golden potatoes. The flavor was acceptable. The rice was cooked to perfection. The sirloin steak with rice was also acceptable. The steak with fried eggs and onions was also acceptable. The onions were delicious, but the fries seemed to have been pre-cooked. The "chanchito campero" (country-style pork) was boneless pork with a wine, mushroom, and bell pepper sauce. It was served with garlic-infused golden potatoes; the garlic flavor was subtle and the potatoes weren't crispy. The flavor was also acceptable but unremarkable; the meal didn't leave you wanting more. In short, the service was cordial and respectable, and the portions were generous enough for one very hungry person or even two. However, the flavor fell short.

My family and I arrived and had to wait a while, but it was worth it. The portions are large, filling, and delicious. We ordered the O'Higgins Platter and a chorrillana (easily one of the best I've ever had). The waitress was incredibly friendly and brought us another bowl of bread when we ran out. Highly recommended.
